  1. I find one of the most important things besides off season training, and mobility work, is how you start your season. I'm on the shelf for pretty much 8 months. If I start right out on the course it's pretty much a recipe for injury. Like any strength training program it needs to be progressive. Problem is your mind knows exactly how to do what your body won't allow. Free skiing to start, than short sets after, running starting passes. This is very important to me especially after a winter of work and feeling strong.

    Settings:

    • Short/Deep (29 ¾ - 2.505 – 6.850 - .758 - 9)
    • Long/Shallow ( 30 1/8 - 2.480 - 6.945 - .750 )

The above review is based on the Short/Deep settings. If I had to run the most perfect 35 off possible or run the most 35 off passes back to back I would take Short/Deep.

When it is time to shorten to 38 and beyond, Long/Shallow will likely yield higher scores.

So did your run 38 on this ski?

  3. It's all about the knees! Get them right up to your chest keep your abs tight pressure on the front foot and your off to the races. If you don't have good flexibility in your hips that will give you something to work on over the winter. The tighter to your chest the knees are, the faster you will come up, the further out they are the more pressure on your low back.

I’m not so sure if the bottom of the heel gives you the right measurement.

I’m a size 10 reflex and radar, with the reflex shell on… I measure from under the heel block, then I put the radar on and bottom of the heel gives me a  bigger number. So at the beginning I used to measure with the reflex and them put on the radar. I’ve noticed that radar feels better if I move the plate 1/8 back. Still measuring at the bottom gives me a bigger number…

now that I’m used to the radar I measure midways on the heel and gives me the same number as with the reflex on and measuring under the heel block. I don’t know if this is the best way, but it works for me.

This would be good news for me. I'm looking for 30" and with the binding holes I can only get 29 7/8. Next stop 30 1/4

  5. @skialex No problem. I really like hearing about skis that I haven't been on. Skied a set with the Ion 2 new ski with new bindings not ideal. I came away with a very good impression of the Ion 2. Time will tell!

I was on HO v type r I did like that ski , tried a Denali was not for me tried Radar vapor build I thought it was ok faster than the ion but much less predictable. Where do you ski?

Ski out in Waterport NY. I have skied the HO vtype. Not the R, didn't care for that ski at all. Would you say the Ion is more work to ski? Perhaps it sits deeper in the water?

  7. I'm pretty sure I've got a first generation slot caliper. Dave Goode gave it to me when the 9100 came out. I've gotten skis from goode in the last 2 years and the numbers they set are right on the money with my caliper. So I don't know....
