  1. If I had a boat in the water (or a course, or a driver for that matter), I'd be game. But alas...
  2. I enjoy mine quite a bit, though I haven't skied hard enough to take a fall in them. I did some drill therapy in my ski since the adapter plate wasn't out last summer, but I'll pick one up soon. I don't really have anything to compare them to, but they're night & day next to the rubber boots I had, very comfortable, secure and supportive. If you've got the cash, go for it.
  3. waterskis.com has treated me pretty well, very good prices too.
  4. Kinda like those magnetic bracelets. Are those supposed to collect ferrous materials in your hands so you can say you have an iron fist?
  5. Just because a lot of people use a product does not make it a good product. I thought most other people in the software game used multiple browsers as a workaround to nonstandardization anyway. It's John's site and he thankfully doesn't charge us anything to use it, so I'm happy to use whatever browser he recommends.
  6. To get a topic to become marked as read (by actually reading it, not using the "mark all viewed" link), you need to click the "discussions" link, not your browser's back button. Something to toss on the back burner while images/videos get straightened out. And I thought my days of software QA were over...
  7. Check the local laws too, you don't want to do the work just to find out you've got to take it out when the authorities come by.
  8. My favorite time is when the ice has melted. You can guess my least-favorite time.
  9. I've still got a good foot of ice around my dock, might be more like July 4th before I can put the boat in. Maybe I'll bring your gear in a kayak.
  10. I'll gladly drive some gear across Lake Ontario for the northeastern Canadians. No border patrol in the small bays that I know of.
  11. I could understand the motivation if they were concerned with environmental impacts of skiing, but the bill doesn't seem to prohibit power boats, or even free skiing for that matter. Let's hope it gets shot down like Cheny's hunting partner.
  12. I dislocated a kneecap along with a torn meniscus and MCL, also playing backyard volleyball, some 7 or 8 years back. Had arthroscopic surgery to put it back in place & clear out some floating chunks of bone & cartilage. PT lasted about 5 or 6 months & I kept it going on my own a month or 2 afterwards. Since then I haven't had any problems skiing, or wakeboarding, or heavy running (70 miles/week), but things like tennis or hockey or anything that requires lateral stopping or pivoting I think twice before doing. Being 19 at the time probably didn't hurt the healing process. Being diligent with the therapy is key, even if it's the very last thing in the world you want to do.
  13. Behindpropellers has a great point. A lot of folks seem to overlook the fact that our electrical grid can't handle the power needs of everyone charging their vehicles (cars, boats, team of sled dogs, whatever). Sure you're not spraying exhaust into the air from an electric engine, but you'd damn well better believe the coal fired plant down the road is. That said, maybe this will have an effect on our mindset. You are limited to 6-8 sets at a time; instead of whining for more, why don't we make those limited sets count?
  14. Wake me up when they put a Mr. Fusion in a boat, Back to the Future style.
  15. Also referred to by Skee Lo in his hit single I Wish.
  16. I've always been curious about putting in a 3-speed transmission to cut down on fuel consumption at 36 mph. Probably tricky, and it is another thing that can break, but you're the engineer - make it happen!
  17. I went to Mauritius last November (go ahead and google map it, I'll wait.......good), & ventured to the Eau Bleue ski center, and there was nothing doing. I saw 2 covered older Nautiques in the driveway and no one home. I asked around but no one had contact info. Had to settle for skiing in the ocean behind their equivalent of a Boston Whaler.
  18. 1: I will continue to ski behind a boat that is older than I am. 2: I will find a ski partner & not just a driver. 3: I will finish my damn novel. 4: I will ski, rain, wind or shine, at least 4 days a week. 5: I will learn how to play an instrument. Hooray for completely objective resolutions!
  19. He helped me out quite a bit too. Incredibly nice guy, both him & his brother. At 6'1, I was looking up at him, but I'd say he's closer to 6'5-6'6 - still a pretty tall dude.
  20. The closest place I know of is Lake Cochituate in Natick/Framingham. Unfortunately the boat ramp is utterly terrible, and you're at the mercy of the water level to get your boat through the tunnel to get to the course. Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester is another option (go to the south launch off of Route 20 for the course), but it's never really calm out there. I think there's a club way out in Oakham too, but I'm not sure on that, and there are a few odd lakes up in New Hampshire which are at least an hour away. There isn't much in terms of private lakes that I know of, definitely no man made ones. You might try looking up the INT coordinator for New England for more info.
  21. My lake just froze over last night. The worst phrase in the world is "lake effect snow".
  22. Today was the first sign of ice along the shore. I'm counting pushups already, it's gonna be a long winter.
  23. I'd like to know how to slow the course down. 16 seconds seems like it flies by way too fast. Off the water non-exercise-related drills would be good to learn too.
  24. Doug Leenhouts, 27, of Wolcott, NY. I just figured out counter-rotation after 22 years of skiing so you can imagine that there's a ways to go yet. I refuse to wear a wet-or dry-suit, I have a slalom tattoo, & I despise jet skis. And I will never, ever, take skiing for granted.
