I submitted a revision request that has Ed's/Chet's entrance gate and Todd/Chet's exit gate features. I did request that this apply to class E tournaments also and at the election of the skier They could ski class E at nationals instead of L. According to klindy at the 13 nationals there was approx.3 percent or 17 skiers or so involved. The biggest problem with the existing gate rule is this.Gates when missed at a Class C tournament are often times not zeroed.A larger than you would think percentage of gates missed at local record tournaments are not zeroed. This is not according to the rules but is a reality with competitive slalom and being at competitions with our friends. Why not revise a rule that few want to enforce anyway? All skiers would be judged much more consistently with respect to the gates if this proposed revision was adopted.

Bruce Thanks for the info. We had a 66 6.1 at deans for about a week. I suspected before I tried it that it was too small for me(215lbs). The first time I tried it I ran a this seasons practice pb(3.5@39). It didn't feel to small at all. The next set I used my 66.75 nano one and I ran another season practice pb(4). I tried the 6.1 the next day on the last set and I skied a fatigued set. I let the ski down on that set.Itdid feel too small that set but it was a skier problem and not a ski problem. I think the Mapple folks have a very nice ski!

@AB,the 68.5" goode traditional is a pretty darn good ski for us bigs. The 70.25 was very nice for reducing pressure on the back and making ZO think I was a little.You had to stay ahead of the game on the 70.25.If you got late or into much of a tailwind it was very hard to turn at speed.I would stay with the 68.5"if you get a chance to try one. I thought about switching back to my 68.5 right before nationals but I chickened out and rode my Nano 1.

@klindy I am going to try to get one with the old graphics so my wife won't know.

B2+.Seems to help me get further downcourse before the ZO tug of war starts. I received negative feedback from my boatcrew with plus because i was getting 2 power surges from the engine at the wake crossing.If I ski smoother and just work behind the boat the engine surges are reduced.The boat is a 2013 200 5.7..

@GOODESkier I bet you like the longer length ski at your height and weight. Have a good first ride.

@AB I have been on the 66.75 since July 2012.most of the time i was around 225. The first version was a little narrower and hard to get across course on at that weight. The second version came out last fall and is .1 wider.It is better at getting across Course without getting a hernia.i lost 10 lbs and the ski is working even better.ive skied both the 68.5 And 70.25 goodies also.have you tried the 68.5 traditional Goode?

@ OB I know the majority on this thread aren't happy with my comments. I believe what will be proposed as a rules change to not judge the gates is for the common good of our sport. Probably doesn't have a snowballs chance of getting anywhere. I seem to be in the minority(.065%). I guess I better get to work because I can't ski if I don't work. Thanks for your response. Steve

@Jody_Seal What were the .065% names? @OB Why not make it easier for skiers to progress at the longer line lengths. Anybody new to the sport has to have pretty thick skin to hang in there when many of the skiers at any given tournament are level 8 and 9.

@ Marco Just having one skier who had the experience your friend did above is too many. Why not support not calling the gates for 1 year trial period for F,C,and E tournaments. No gate cameras,no gate dvr's and hard to see monitors,happy skiers,happy judges, happy TC's,fewer delays... If this change is not well received then it changes back to what we have now. If this change is well received then L & R tournaments would most likely adopt this change fairly quickly. I have never experienced missing the gates or having my gates zeroed at Nationals but if it did happen to you,your kids,or your friends it takes the fun out of the sport for a while. There is no need for this to occur. My gate approach does change to a more conservative one at Regionals and Nationals to insure they won't be missed.If I could be right up against the righthand gate buoy without a fear of missing them I would have a better start at my hardest passes. The above proposed rule change would give all of us that freedom. Also being able to reduce the amount of electronics required on a tournament site would help to reduce delays.Electronics and the elements don't go together very well. My ski partner jumped off the dock and was in the water on the Main Lake Friday and he had to hold up.He had to take his ski off(powershells) and wait 5 plus minutes before being allowed to compete.He said it didn't bother him but I'm sure it didn't help. I am not exactly sure what caused the hold-up. It seems like this sport is becoming more and more complex while our skier numbers are becoming fewer and fewer.It would be nice to simplify it where we can.

If we could get Chet's proposed gate rule change applied at least through Class E tournaments it would be a change for the better for all involved. Judges having to call/review skiers gates and skiers having to have their gates called is an unpleasant and unneccesary thing that this sport can do without.

You dont need the accuracy for the entry gates if you dont judge them. I wouldnt even go so far as to add a buoy per gordons proposal. All the skier would have to do is get outside the wake on the 246 side somewhere between the 55's and the entry gate which could be verified by the boat judge. It would be up to the skier when to head towards one.Just use the existing gates as you choose for reference. Leave the exit gates as they are but without video.Let the boat judge call it. Sorry for the delay Shane.i was on the tower pushing the rewind button.i guess I messed up and it took a while to find the your gate shot.in the mean time you had elected to proceed.The event before The one i judged had a very long delay for similar reasons.The event after the one I judged had a several minute delay for similar reasons.I personally don't think any skiers tournament ski ride or judges volunteer effort Should be affected by having to call someone's gate.Do away with 2/3rds of the equipment and a lot of Skier and judge unhappiness by adopting Gordon's entry gate idea.Forget the gate cameras!Our sport Is declining and anything that can make this hobby more user friendly and simpler in general should be welcome.Once again,Sorry for the botched judging effort.

Shane-Yeah thats a one hour and 15 minute unneccesary tournament delay(not to mention yours).BG1 is on target with his post.The listed SCR rules commitee members are Kathy Ives and Bob Mayhew.What would it hurt to request a change for the better.By the way this judge apologizes for delay on your gate review Saturday.

The gate issue isn't a new one.I have seen many a competitor at nationals have their gate called when they truly believed their gate was good.This creates one PO'd competitor and puts them at odds with the judges(who are skiers also usually).Why dont we talk to our regional rules commitee person and promote not calling the gates.We could try it for one year trial period to see if it works.I would bet that we don't go back to what we have now.

I totally agree with BG1.Lets simplify so that this becomes a non issue.

I have skied both.i am 6-3 and 220. The strada was smooth and stable.it seemed fast enough.turning was good through 35. The Goode 68.5 has a lot of the same traits.maybe a bit faster off the buoy than the strada. The 9800 offered a little sharper turning also maybe just because it is shorter. The 9800 I used was rff and I am lff but it seemed to ski fine. I have a 68.5 nano (not twisted) that was used 1 season if you have interest. It is lff.

I've been using Wiley's for 8 years.I have had plenty of really nice falls of all types and no foot or ankle Injuries.My last ankle injury was in an animal (1999).I am interested in the ho apex.i think Horton is Testing some so maybe we will know something soon.

The 9700 gave you about 3 extra buoys and allowed you to use a little shorter ski. It was a gift from God,oops I mean Goode.

Live 2-I am 6'-2" and 220.I can give you decent feedback on some the large Goode's. I usually ski into deep 38 and sometimes 39. As has been mentioned here before the goodes run a little longer than advertised. I had a few 66 widerides early on but I use a wileys front with rear toe and you need at least a front hardshell to make the WR work. The 67.25traditionals feel a little small.Easy to get in deep in the turns and not exit cleanly. The 66 nano mid also felt a little small.Better in the turns than the traditional 67.25 but not quite as good across course. The 70.25 nano trad. was great as long as you stayed ahead and maintained control. Once you get behind it was hard to turn at speed.Especially in a tailwind. Would be a great ski for someone who weighed 240-260. The 68.5 nano trad. is one of the better fits I have found for my weight,ability,and binding choice.I also liked the 68.5 9800 I used for a while.This ski seems to turn well enough and allows you to have less load out of the buoy and across course which helps with the ZO monster. Out of the above Goode's my suggestion would be the 68.5 trad.for 220 lbs 32-35 off.It is hard to not load the line/ski off the buoy when you weigh what we do and a ski that is too small won't help you learn to crush 35.
