  1. When I drag my rear foot I really extend my rear leg back and point my toes. The top of your foot acts like another planing surface and aids getting up faster. I let my chest come up over my bent front knee. The older I get the more important it is to lessen stains on the back. I've had one back surgery already, don't want anymore!
  2. @Pat M It's cedar with Sikkens Dek finish, cedar color. I 'm happy with it but beware cedar is pretty soft and if you have a bunch of rambunctious kids they'll beat it up. Maintenance is a fresh coat about every 3-4 years. Being a woodworker there's just no way I can own a plastic deck. House is all all natural wood too. @RAWski Lets go for a ski when you pick up your ski.

  3. After cranking in augers for 20 sections it feels a mile long! I have to change to pads. Even after all that dock I'm only chest deep and I'm short! At least its sand all the way out. I'll reveal my age, what's a Flugtag contest?
  4. I've found using a boom is the fastest way to get someone up on one. I agree on getting them comfortable on one ski by dropping. Once they are comfortable skiing on one then have them hold on to the boom directly for their first attempt to get up on one. After they have mastered that, attach a 5' rope for the next attempt. The boom is nice because it pulls the skier forward and UP which reduces the strain on the skier. It also makes it easier to see what they are doing right or wrong and you give them instruction directly. Finally move behind the boat. I had my sister-in-law who had never skied in her life doing deep waters is less than a hour.
  5. We were there a month ago, and my wife was bitching about the one day of rain we had. We were lucky and the weather other than that day was great. Sounds like the north shore got pummeled. Saw pics of the park at the Hanelai pier, its almost gone. So sad. @jjackrash how was it at Poipu? It's remarkable how different the climate is on the two sides of not that big of island.
  6. Bummer! Yes it would have been nice if they had been more critical in boat and equipment test but its understandable considering the lack of advertising in the last years. The instructional articles and photography were always excellent!. Its hard not to view this as another blow to our sport, any contraction is harmful. Just having the magazine laying around was exposure for the sport. A friend commented to me how he saw my ad in the magazine in his doctors office, how many other people saw that same magazine? I have to personally thank Todd R. as he was always very supportive of both myself and DBski. The magazine did things no one else did, like the Waterski Awards. In combination with the Malibu Open this made for a weekend to celebrate waterskiing. The banquet and awards presentation were always first class! It's very sad for myself to think back just three years ago when I was able to help out with the awards and now its all gone! I'm older and I recognize the world is changing and print is fading out but I still enjoy a good magazine I can take anywhere.zyxkg9lcdtli.jpg

  7. Reminds me of the movie "Unsalted". Movie is about Great Lakes surfers who surf year around on the lakes. Apparently, the best waves come in the dead of winter. There are great shots of surfers jumping of icebergs to catch waves in Lake Superior in January!
  8. Now that the 2017 ski season is over its time to reward those accomplishments of the past year. Did you or a family member have a breakout year or achieve a hard fought goal? Did you finally place in a state tournament or nationals? Did you pull the trigger on that new lake home? Its time to commemorate these achievments with one of my decorative skis! Or maybe your just not happy with what Santa brought you. Order one of my skis through January and I'll pick up the shipping. Just look to your left and drop me and12ytemxwt6b.jpg
