  1. @skispray. I don't know the answer to this question....but I wonder if INT is seeing the same rate of loss of membership. I think in my area, it is nonexistent. I don't resist good change. I resist change that won't effect what it was intended to do.

How about changes in the structure that allows the host site of nationals to to retain more money from hosting a event. Right now, I don't think we have a site for next years nationals. Lets get that long time problem fixed. Who wants to host the event next year when we have this huge new influx of ability based skiers?

The sport will only continue to exist with skiers who have passion for it. Passion won't be developed by ability based division. You have it, or you don't.

  2. People see the numbers of collegate skiers and wonder how do we get them to continue to partcipate? The question is why do more than 50% of the collage skiers partcipate in the first place. It has nothing to do with competition. It is 75% social. My daughter has lived on a private site her entire life. Has a older brother that is a accomplished three event skier. Skied some tournaments (less than 5) in g1/g2. From the age of ten till 17 skis once a year. Starts college, and wants to join the ski team. Why??? It is all about the social aspect.

Jeff says the collage skier running 3 balls is intimidated by Cole Mccormick in m1. Guess what...... How will they fell when they come out and get smoked by a 7 or 8 year old. We host three tournaments a year and each has a minimum of 35 skiers. About 10 will be b1&2/g1/2. Very few run less than a full pass.

There are systems in place that allows the host site to set up the skier groups any way they see fit. Ability groups can be done now.

What does the winner of a ability base tournament accomplish??? Bragging rights that allow you to say that you were the best skier of 3 skiers that can't run 22 off???

I have seen score books with as few as ten skiers. How many ability divisions do you want?

Ability based divisions will not grow the sport. More people on the shore that moon the jumper if he lands a jump might. Good luck with that. No one wants to see my BIG white butt.

  3. We have found that most buyer become concerned as soon as the hour meter hits 1,000 hours. True, that a tournament boat spends a ton of time at the end of the lake at idle. But, at the same time, it spends a fair amount of time at 3400 RPM. Not to many times do you run the RPM's that high on a car for a extended time. It is hard to translate boat hours into auto miles and time.
  4. @Horton the simple answer is yes. Lots of things to consider but in your case yes. As @MISkier said they always use the higher option, even if it is with a penalty. Lets say score 100 class c. 85 class l. 80 class c. Have 88.3 no penalty. But the 100 with a 10% class c penalty is 90. So the 90 would be the score in the ranking list. If the 100 was a class l or r score the penalty would be 5% with a ranking list score of 95.

Now lets say 100 L. 100 C. 92 C. Ave 97.3 no penalty. 3 score Ave. BUT the two score Ave of two 100s from a L & C with a 2.5% penalty yields a score of 97.5 for the ranking list. Higher than the 97.3.

    Now 100 L. 100 L. 98 C. Just use the two class L for a 100.

    One score class L R 5% penalty

One score class C 10% penalty

Two class L R no penalty

    Two class C 5% penalty

One class L one class C 2.5% penalty

    Three class C no penalty.

Always use the score that produces the highest results regardless if a penalty applies.

This is why you see the little red "#" or "*" in some of the scores.

    Hope this helps

  5. Regional and nationals in the same year is brutal. Completely understand the reluctance to do it again. Same thing happened a few years ago with San Marcos in Texas. Horton talks about ROI for the competitors. What about ROI for the hosts. THANKS TO THE PEOPLE OF BROADSIDE HARBOR for all your work.
  6. @MrJones. It sounds like they told her that her induction into the "hall of fame" would be delayed if she skied open. Sounds like she did not want to do that. So next options were W3 or MW. Looks like the schedule favored W3 since it was closer to when Chris skied.

Hope the flooding clears soon. Imagine the mess had this storm passed thru the weekend of regional. Good luck

  7. @Edbrazil the only thing I can figure is that they are afraid of the risk of injury. Malibu is next week, and they firgure if they get hurt this week going for a medal, they might miss out on a payday next week. M1 overall should have been the Open Men overall. The top six or seven should have all been open overall.
  8. @horton Soooo you plan to hold Nationals over the months of July AND Aug??? Orrrrr limit the numbers to ooooo about 8 skiers per age div and event.

How many three round, three event skiers can you pull in 6 days?? Now try to sell that number to the vendors who bring out the new products. Thats the point where THEY say..... What is the ROI for the company.

Three round tournaments are every weekend. Thats why you see inflated scores on the ranking list. The goal at nationals should be to finish above your seed.

  9. @eleeski Yes, the female side of the sport is doing great things. Good luck.

@Horton Its called life. Look at the events going on in RIO. Some of them get one event that might last less than 60 seconds. Why would anyone want to run the 100M.

The nationals is the best way to determine who can perform at a high level under extreme conditions. The best man wins on that day. Step out on the dock, Put your ski on, and beat everyone else. Pretty awesome if you do it. If not, go home, practice hard, and try again.

  10. @Than_Bogan KC absolutely has the right to drop down and ski M1 if he wants. Knowing KC, I don’t think there is much of a chance of him doing that. If you want to be in the conversation as one of the best, you go play with the best. Do we all agree that the best are the OM/MM???
