  1. @travnews good to know- I'm currently boat shopping after spending most of last summer behind my ski partner's response (my current moomba's engine is in the wrong place) and it looks like mid to high 30s will get me a pretty loaded outback. So if this new player is a price point boat then I would think if it's a bare bones model it would have to come in well below that
  2. Than and crew- thanks for making us "non-awesome line length" skiers feel welcome. This website and interaction is part of what makes skiing so awesome- you can't really go to a golf website, post a question, and expect some of the world's best golfers to chime in. I can't wait to get back on the course this spring and take you up on your offer to answer more "basic" questions as I (hopefully) advance my skills.
  3. Just curious- all you guys that ski at awesome short rope lengths- have you ever gone back and skied at 15 off? If so how does that feel? Is there a point at which a longer rope reduces your ability to generate speed and makes it harder to complete a pass? I was told to throw the first 15 feet of rope away- is that wrong for a new skier?
  4. I love this video- reminds me that just 2 summers ago before I found buoys and a guy with a RLXI my main pull was a bass tracker deck boat. When my dad (who is 66) skis he likes me to lengthen the rope and make the wake bigger so he can rest behind the boat "where it's smooth"
  5. OB I usually ski at the Muncie waterski club i.e. the waterbowl although I've skied a few other places around the state through the Indiana waterski association. I've skied my whole life but just got addicted to those little buoys in the last year or so. I have lots of friends/family who ski but have never tried the course so I'm hoping to get some of them addicted like me next year!
  6. Thanks to ballofspray.com, Radar Skis, and Marine Products! I was so excited to get a call from the man himself Mr. Horton to inform me I won the giveaway! Now my wife can't say I waste all my time online! And if any of you are ever passing through Indiana and want to give the new ski a ride or just need a pull look me up!
  7. My name is Bob and I'm 34 y/o from east central Indiana (Muncie)- married with 2 young boys- I skied in open water my whole life just for fun until last year when I first tried the course a handful of times behind my (soon to be sold) V drive boat. This year I met a guy at our ski club who owns a RLXI and needed a driver so we started to ski together a few times a week and really started to get hooked on those 6 little balls. Spent a lot of time trying to explain to friends and family what exactly slalom is. Made my first full pass 9/23 and I'm looking forward to getting a DD boat and hitting the course hard next year. I think this sport would really grow if more people had access to a course- so one goal I have for next year is to introduce the course to somebody who has never tried it before.

  11. Hi- I'm new here but I remember exactly where I was the first time I ran all 6- that's because it was Sept 23 2011. I'm 34 yrs old and have skied in open water since I was 9. I had always dreamed of skiing a course but just didn't have access to one. Last year a spot opened up and I joined a local ski club and tried the course for the first time. In July last year I fell and sprained my ankle and was out for the rest of 2010. Well this year I started taking it a little more seriously- took a few sets at the swiss ski school and had my wife record some videos of my skiing. By mid season I met a "ski buddy" at the club and we started skiing a few times a week and little by little I've been trying to make those bad open water habits go away. I changed my grip (LFF; changed from right palm down to right palm up) and squared my shoulders to the boat and by late July I could consistently get balls 1,2,3,4 just miss 5 and get 6 at 15off 28mph. Sept 23 I went out to ski with the main goal of working on some Terry Winter tips from this site- more balance and bringing a little counterrotation into the mix. I was not going to "ski hard" I was just going to work on a few things. Next thing I know I'm rounding 5 ball and pulling over to six. When I rounded six I felt like I won the Olympics and hardly could hang onto the rope- thanks to the info on this site! Here's hoping that I still have enough good years to keep getting better!
