  1. I am helping my parents find a basic slalom boat. It has been narrowed down to a 91-94 Prostar 190 or a 94-96 SN. The MC of that era has a good reputation as far as the wake and build. I don't know much about the 94-96 SN. I know the 97+ SN is great (TSC hull), but is more than they are willing to spend. What can you tell me about SN in the 94-96 range as far as wake, build, etc? How does it compare to the MC? Thanks. Edit: They ski at 32 mph 15 off. 100% freeski, no course.
  2. @jipster43 What are you wanting to get for your boat?
  3. Here is a good place to start: http://www.ballofspray.com/home-v16/tech-articles-mainmenu Also, this article helped me immensely: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oDlyJi8MRdF9t8uQcEMCUEGsivhQ2tP7qOO6HfPgCDg/edit You should be fine on that ski for the rest of the season. I would keep a look out for 2012 65" Triumphs or Coefficient X either will be a good improvement, they will become more available as the season winds down. Size shouldn't be far off, my sis rode a 67" Triumph last week and it made her 28 and 30 mph course passes much easier. She is 5'8" and 135.
  4. @DooSPX love the blue trailer! I have the same color scheme but with a white trailer.
  5. @Wish just out of curiosity what was the $700 ski?
  6. Could this be the new orange Radar?
  7. Is that the Goode pond? Those pics make it look a lot nicer than a drive-by on 21st street.
  8. @scuppers you must have some bad drivers taking your boat out. I have a 92 Prostar 205 and have only dunked the nose once, there were 4 girls up front and it was crappy water on a public lake. Everyone in my family has driven my boat and haven't had any dunking problems
  9. Ok, this article has been a goldmine for my skiing. I posted about a week ago (4 posts up), I am now back to say that I went from running a full pass 28 mph @15off to running full passes 34 mph @15off! So pumped right now.
  10. Its amazing how much off-the-water training can help. Both practicing position with a handle and mental thought. I am exactly what this "chapter" describes and I have been trying to read it at least once a day to get it into my head. I am predominantly a freeskier with old bad habits. I have tried the course a handful times with little success because I thought skiing was all about the turns. I have been working on correct body position since this article was posted and finally had the chance to run the course last night. I ran a 28 mph @15off pass for the first time ever and ran it several times. I also got all but one ball on my 30 mph @15off pass. I am now addicted. Thanks @Than!
  11. I am interested in this as well. I have never entered a tournament, the wife and I have been thinking it could be fun. We ski well below the 36 and 34 mph most tournament skiers ski at. How do the categories work?
  12. I can't really say as I haven't skied the non-SL. Shape is the same, SL is lighter and may be faster due to materials. I am going to give the Triumph a spin through the course this week as I only ski the course at 28-30 mph right now. It is similar to the non-SL Coex, just slightly wider, I will report back and see if it helps.
  13. I was in pretty much the same situation as you at the beginning of the season. 31 yrs old, 200 lbs (I lost 25, so now 175), mostly freeski w/ some limited course. I was skiing a 66 Concept and got the 67 Coefficient X SL. The switch was incredible, the Coex SL is faster, more stable, better in the turns, etc. I am extremely pleased and can't wait to ski after work each day!
  14. I recently purchased my own boat and now get to ski 3-4 times a week (previously it was only once or twice a week). After about 4 weeks of this my body is no longer my friend. I have sore ribs, strained back, and sore neck/shoulder. I'm guessing a lot of this has to do with the fact that I just jump in and ski. I was wondering what kind of advice I could get as far as a warm up routine or stuff I should be doing daily to keep my body ski happy. PS. I'm only 31 yrs old, 5'8" 170 lbs, freeski @ 32 mph, just started the course @ 15 off 28 mph (pretty sure I shouldn't be feeling like I'm 60).

If you are looking for a bikini for protection what does she wear now?...
  16. I just picked up a HO Coefficient X SL, it is an awesome ski for those speeds, it is super fast and holds great in the turns. I feel like the step bottom really does a lot to reduce drag. I would recommend demoing a 69" Coefficient X SL and seeing if the size would work for you. If it feels too small then demo a 69" or 71" HO Triumph as it has the same step concave design as the S2 and the Coex, but comes in a slightly wider profile.
  17. I have skied on and off my whole life, but just recently got the chance to start skiing the course. It is addicting! I am a rookie and am currently working on 30mph @ 15off. I know there are a lot of amazing skiers on here that can tweak fin settings so things feel/perform better for them. For someone of my ability level is this even necessary or am I better off with stock fin settings and working on form/technique?
  18. If you like the idea of the CO-X but want something a notch higher then go for the CO-X SL. Same shape, but made of carbon so it is lighter, more responsive, and has a more advanced flex pattern. Also, like Horton said in his review, it does many of the things he wished the top end skis would do. Less $ than the top skis also.

  20. I am in the same boat as you. I just ordered an HO CO-X, I figure it will give me some growing room. I will probably demo the HO Triumph as well and maybe pick one up as I think it would be great for skiing the course at 28-30 mph. Above 30 the CO-X is awesome.
