  1. It is the standard motor not the monsoon it came stock with an Acme 525 but we have also tried.the 515 per some suggestions. It really appears to me this is a hull issue as a change in prop really had no effect good or bad on the wake. Jhughes mentioned that the wake varied in this hull maybe this is just a bad hull.
  2. We have tried both the Acme 515 and 525 both with similar results. The wake is small but very firm. Even at 28 off the wake is really not very good. We have taken all extra weight out, skiing with no back seat and 1/4 tank of fuel. We have tried no observers, 2 observers, weight in the nose. Nothing seems to work. Any other suggestions, the next step may be a for sale sign.
  3. Sam's club sells Body Glove jackets for infants to adults. These jackets are great for general use and reasonably price, if you can catch an end of the year sale even better.
  4. Thanks for all the posts so far each one is very helpful! I have also concluded that this is not an exact science so numbers from someone else could be slightly different if the measurements are not done exactly the same.
  5. Can anyone point me to a tutorial that shows the correct way to measure your fin/wing and make appropriate adjustments? I have read the literature from the ski manufacture and reviewed the adjustment suggestions on various ski manufactures sites. I would like to see in picture or video form someone adjusting their fin so I can better understand where on the ski the measurements are taken. Also, any hints or tricks to make this as consistent as possible would be appreciated. Thanks, Bryan
  6. The reputation of buttery soft wakes was one of the main reasons for purchase. I guess the next step is to verify the prop and make an adjustment if needed. @brody does your ski partners 08 have ZO? Thanks for the help and recommendations hopefully we can find a solution soon.
  7. The boat is an Response LX with the play pen open bow. They can still be ordered and purchased, usually Malibu does not even include them in the brochure (they are advertised in the 2012 brochure).
  8. My 89 had a very large wake at 30mph, it did flatten out a bit at 36 but it was still a bear. I sold it and purchased a 97 sn and love the wake at all speeds. The 2001 hull is a very popular wakeboard boat for good reason.
  9. My ski partner is a mature Men’s 7 skier, he is currently skiing on a 2010 d3 z7 from his 34 mph days. What would be a good ski choice for 32 mph skiing into 28 off. Thanks
  10. Thanks for all the help and suggestions, keep them coming. We will play with things to see if we can improve the wake. I am not sure what the prop is but I assume that it is stock. I will check, any suggestions on a prop for the boat, it is used for 90% slalom and is used for many learn to ski and grassroot events. The wake is nothing like comparable 2011 boats, it reminds me of my old 89 SN as it is very hard and firm. The boat was a replacement for an 04 SN for the purpose of having zero off. Went forward on the speed control technology but backwards in ski ability. Thanks for all the help.
  11. @jhughes thanks for the suggestions and info on the hull. The boat will be used for many grassroot events so the 15off wake is critical. This boat seems to have a hull that "is like hitting a parking block". Is it safe to say that this boat will never have a comparable wake to nautique, mastercraft malibu lxi or the carbon pro? Any other tips on improving the wake are appreciated.
  12. One driver one observer nothing crazy half tank of fuel and no water in the bilge. The prop was reworked this winter to take care of a few small nicks but other than that stock just like it came off the show room.
  13. My ski partner purchased a 2011 response lx with zo last fall. We are having trouble with a very firm wake this is at speeds from 30-36 at 15 and 22 off. We have added approx 50 lbs in the nose but it does not seem to help. Having only limited experience with an earlier 2000s model I was suprised at the firmness of the wake. Any suggestions to improve the wake? Thanks
  14. @OB skied with Tom and his daughter a couple of times last year very nice family glad he joined the club. That sunsetter looks big on the trailer never seen the wakes but I remember him enjoying skiing behind a 196. @crashman, the 99 SN was my favorite make sure it has a gt 40 great motor with tons of power.
  15. @ crashman I am also from Indiana and was in the same shoes as you last winter. 97 sn was my choice and could not be more satisfied. Brandon with central Kentucky inboards should be someone you get in touch with he sold my old boat to Australia without a hitch. Would always recommend his services. @ OB who is your friend as I am a member of Ski Klub of Indy
