  1. Problem with the rise of the big v-drives is that they are not novice wakeboarder friendly. Even with ballast empty, there is too much wake to learn the fundamentals without taken really hard falls. This forces people away from it to focus on surfing and inflatables. And these boats suck for the traditional ski disciplines. On our lake the best wakeboarders all learned on direct drives and slowly worked their way to bigger wake options.

  2. I answered this with sports in mind, Left Handed and RFF. I bat left, play hockey left, golf left, throw left, lacrosse left but play goalie in hockey right, and racket sports right. I also write right and I am right handed surgeon and kick right. I believe this is defined as mixed dominant.

It took a year and a half to get used to holding the slalom handle in the proper position for RFF.

  3. I have a 2016 Ski 200 OB. I just had a bimini installed by my local nautique dealer. How tight should the canvas be? There is some movement but it is not as tight as some of the biminis I have seen with towered boats.
  4. We just upgraded from a '03 206 to a '16 sn 200. The 206 served us well when our family was young. My wife and I could ski the course, everyone could wakeboard and barefoot and there was space for friends. There is a bump at the longer ropes but it is soft. I felt it was less invasive to my skiing that my neighbors MC 197. Mine is also for sale but in storage.
  5. One thing we have found as a family is that the "ski vacation" is a great way to develop skills in the kids. We have a group of families that take a week at Lake Norris in TN and we all bring our ski boats (This year we will have 4 slalom boats and 1 wakeboard boat). While this is not a ski school setting, it gives a ton of water time which is often the biggest need as it pertains to ski development. We have done this trip for almost 8 years and watch kids go from total beginners to learning to barefoot, slalom, basic trick skiing, other goofy things. Last year we invested in a portable course and dropped that in. The kids really advanced having ski sets whenever they wanted them. Of course, with one of these big lakes, you need to find a spot to put the course that has a decent shoreline and minimal traffic which is easier said than done. The east end of Norris is dramatically better than the west as it pertains to boat traffic.

Obviously, if you are seeking professional coaching this type of vacation does not work unless you get someone to travel to you but thought I would throw it out there as a brainstorm.

  6. thanks for your input guys. our 20 ft limit is enforced by proof of manufacturer specs for the boat model plus title and measuring if necessary to get your lake sticker. I don't think ballast rule is truly feasible or enforceable so it probably won't happen. However, looking into it has been requested and I want to make sure, we as a board, do our due diligence. Frankly, I am seeing less and less surfers the last year or so as the 20 ft rule and shallow lake limits what surfers can do. I think they are getting board. That's why we call the Mastercraft x2 a "x-tube".

I'd like to get rid of tubes. They are the bigger lake hazard. But that is a whole

    other thread,lol.

  7. I am on a board that manages a small private access lake in northeast Ohio. We are looking for input/data on ballast restrictions on lakes. Our lake is 300 acres with an even smaller "open" area for skiing, wakeboarding, etc. We have a well maintained and frequently utilized slalom course so there is a vibrant skiing and wakeboard culture. Our current length limit is 20 ft. Anyone have any experience with ballast restrictions as well as implementation, enforcement, etc? The concern is related to erosion and stirring of the bottom leading to mobilization of phosphorus into the water column.

The deepest part of the lake is 16 ft.

    thoughts? experiences?

    thanks

  8. Not a fan of the sport 200 for slalom at all especially if that is your first choice event. Wake became manageable at 28 and shorter. Slalom boats can be modified to board sports easier that V-drives to slalom. My SN 206 slaloms well and sacks up for wakeboard nicely.
