  1. Thanks for many thanks ;) And yes a great tribute to the creators! I would like to thank them and inform that they are now on BOS but haven't had time to set up you tub account yet. Plan to do so! As a trick ski beginner I propose that we start a number of trick thread for 'one trick group at the time' discussions. For example the first group could cover SS, Back/Back Wraps and 360. Lets post progress, videos tips etc there to support each other. That could then be used for (video) support for each skier on our current level. More advanced skiers can then make separate group for Flips, Toe holds etc. Comments?
  2. When I can trick type 1000 points I will give it a try..... ok I plan to use every help I can get and choose easiest flip. I have seen eric do the flip and he is older than me. B)
  3. Fyi If you use gps note the speed is specified in km/h. Mph are rounded values.
  4. @Chef23 Thanks again. Just back from a trick run (to much waves for sl) Tried to focus on look at the horizon and handle close to my back. Worked out better. Now I skied plus 100 meters. Backwards. I guess that I let the handle out when I get tired and then get a fall.
  5. @Chef23 Thanks for positive feedback. I fall backwards when I try to look at the horizon. I can try to look a bit higher but it hurts more falling towards the boat so I will do it gradually. Trick on
  6. @jhughes Hmm started after 30.... I bought my first ever trick ski late last year – at age 56! B) I have now almost 25 runs. FWIW A beginners trick experiences to other beginners I slalom first and then run a shorter trick run. Rather efficient training and I get less bored drivers. It took me some runs to get up on the ski. I gave each run 5 start attempts and then used a drop ski to get some skiing. Now, I maximize number of starts (falls ;0) to 10 per run not to get too tired. Start by doing my save tricks and do my ‘normally failed tricks’ just before I plan to rest. That give me more water time. I found out that the SS is best learned just outside the wake. Start with onside and when the pull is not centered the rope will pull you in and the wake will push you out. The off side SS just outside of the other wake. Go into position and back immediately if needed in order not to fall so often. Work on stay in the SS longer and longer until you can ski SS 30 seconds any position behind the boat. Also try to make them one handed. Skiing back is more difficult. I try to make many on side back wraps. Some folks advice is to train more on the regular back but the BW gives more time on the water standing up so I use a mix. Turn back immediately just before I am about to fall. If I bend my knees more I can get my handle more center behind my butt. I can now ski about 5 seconds in on side BW position. The next goal is to ski backwards. This is when I will fall so I do this before every rest and just outside the starting-pier. I found that it is very important to keep handle close when turning and elbows 90 degrees when riding. Look at a spot 10 meters behind you (the ski make a track in the water) I can get around but only ski a about 5 seconds. How about a beginner trick ski video /knowledge sharing tread?

  8. @DefectiveDave I have stared a new thread on Instructional Trick Ski Videos for beginners. All videos are from youtube I also got the very old book The complete Instructional book of Water skiing by Joel McClintoc Was on Amazon for 1 cent (plus 3,99 shipping) The trick section seems to be still valid. Keep us updated on your progress?
  9. Hi Dave. I am new to trick skiing as well. Am just one trick ahead of you with the two SS and the onside back wrap. There are a few new instructual clips on Youtube for real beginers. I will try to dig them up. I have also posted a clip on Eric recently showing basics. I have been told that once one can ski stable backwards several tricks new will come rather easy. Keep up the trick skiing, it is more fun than it looks.
  10. I just got back for a full week of coaching and skiing in Italy B) In the end I realize that I am lifting my back foot heel a bit. It seems like I do it at the pull out but I do not know if I do it through out the course. I do not know why I do it or if it is a positive or negative thing?!? Any thoughts?
  11. Plus 2 cents on the P6. I currently ride the Theory and that is a great ski that can take you a long way into the course Do not forget the bindings. The Vector are very comfortable and also performs well. If budget allows you will most likely learn faster on a P6 and some time later change to a Theory or similar. Best luck and keep us updated on your progress!
  12. Many great advices given. Many more cents on just having fun and getting used to the lake and course. Fwiw I spent approx 60 runs before I managed the course the first time. And that was at 24 witout entrance gate ... Ok I started very old and are maybe a slow learner but it takes time. Rythm and position are way more important than boies. Enjoy and please keep us updated on your experiences!
  13. Tanks all At the moment the new stuff budget is low. Also few plates available in Sweden.... The plate is ready to be cut out using my buddys watercutting NC machine. Just a small adjustment in the CAD data. Cutting time is fast. Tanks for advice to mount a bit apart!
  14. Just ordered a real tick ski :) It made the wallet a bit to thin so I decided to save on rear binding. A friend will cut out a rear binding plate for me and I have the rubber (he needs to do this before I get the ski) So far so great. However I just realized that the hole pattern has changed 2014. :| http://www.quantumskis.com/products/copy-of-dynamic-rear-trick-plate-plate-with-footbed-version-2 I would be grateful if anybody could provide the CC (Diameter) on the holes for the mount to the ski (is the diameter 7,5" ?)
  15. Hope it is ok to use your thread for this question? Does new boats still have cable? Hydraulic steering a superior and not extremely expensive.
  16. @dnadrifter Another idea that might make you more confused =0) How about get two skis. For example a big ski like the the Free ride / Big Daddy to train on starts and free ski a bit on? Also get a P6 to improve your SL form and start in the course on days when you feel strong Both are reasonable cheap (if your wallet can take it) and great performer skis for their intended usage. Worst case consider RTP’s and use the Big Daddy as a drop ski when riding the P6. You will then have the best of both worlds… (You can always upgrade bindings later) I started with the Big Daddy and moved on to the Theory and this was how I got into more serious skiing. The Big Daddy is still in the garage for beginners that want to learn. I plan also to keep the Theory for advanced guests when I go for next ski (most likely this later this season).
  17. @dnadrifter I have Vector AL plate on my Theory. Only minor problems with the plastic lock parts on the bungy cord. Lock mechanism fell off so I added a thin piece of rope to not loose it. I have Vector FF on my free ski Senate. They are for sure lighter. I like them equally much. I have heard that a few persons have had problems with the plastic breaking (screw holes). For a big guy I would buy AL just in case they could break. Old Big Guy o:) I was 52 the first time I saw a SL course and that was the first time I got towed behind a real water-ski boat. Took me approx 70 runs to make all six (@26) PB was set last run in November, 4@34 so you are most likely way ahead of me soon! This year goal is to make a few on 22 off Also starting tricking late last season (age 56). I have now made type 17 runs and can make my first tricks. Side Slide on side, SS off side, Back Wrap onside. Recommend it, Tricking was way more fun than I expected and it did immediately improve my SL form (Stacked position). It is also great for the confidence (to have results in two disciplines) Keep us posted on the progress... Best luck! Peter from Sweden
  18. Would it be feasible to use RFID. Short Radio Frequence ID devices? Used in supermarkets, for running biking, Crosscontry ski, etc races. Put one with different ID's on each side on the skier (Binding or legs) Put a device in the boie that detects that both was on the outside when passing the boie. RFID are available for different ranges. From inches to a range up to type 8 yards. Can cope with the speed. Can cost a few dollars. I do not know so much about the receiver but would guess in the range of 100. (For a short period there was a RFID in in mobile phones) Only problem I see is to secure that the boie do not spin around.
  19. Can you trick gurus teach me a bit more about Trick Ski handles? Have just started using my 12” SL handle. Have problems to grab it behind my back. A wider handle seems easier? For Example: I can see ML has a toe hold version and a non-Toe hold version Doubt that I ever will do Toe Holds but one never knows? Skip Toe Hold until I really need it (extra cost and weight)? They come in with from 12” to type 16” Advantages / Disadvantages? Is wider better for a beginner? I have been told that some trickers use 15” Wake Board handles. What about the small extra mini handle for some tricks? Obstacle or help? Opinions? Thickness. Does it really matter? The extra padding on the handle rope to protect your back (wetsuit). I guess that it will be useful in a foreseeable future for a beginner? Gloves? No gloves, Garden gloves, regular gloves?
  20. From a beginner. I use ML prolocks size S and Radar size L. Prefer to ski using the radars. Aclinchers provide for me only advantages. The only thing forgotten is thah my wife (like most?) hate blisters so clinchers improve our relation o:)
  21. @MS Yes i tried out the special guest one and only eleeski trick ski. Whit my limited experience It was far better than my own ski. @Hallpass In the middle of the desert. Amazing place. South of Palm Desert. East of Salton See.
  22. @Than_Bogan I started tricking in August last year. Newer thought it could be fun. I have found out that it is actually fun! -My SL stacked position improved immediately. -Falls and to run hurts less... >:) -It is a nice change when SL form is not great. I do now solid SS R-SS and last run my first Back
  23. @rawly I am from Sweden, Stockholm. This year Norwegian set up a direct flight Stockholm to LA. Only 11 hours (that is 2 hours / 20 hours with time time zone impacts) We ski in sort of a bay at Lake Mälaren (huge lake but with 1000 of islands). Located 40 minutes from center of Stockholm. Ski it FW! Ballers, let me know if you are around and want to ski in cold dark wind/wave conditions o:) .... Ok, sometimes we have great whether also! I shall try to help you!
  24. @ eleeski Eric demonstrate the basic trick in a very instructional Trick Run. Side Slide's, Back Wrap's, Regular Back's, 360's, Wake's. All together constitutes the first recommended trick run.
  25. Almost all water theory I have learned originates from this forum! Thanks Ballers. But there has been an even more exiting story I would like to share. It started with mail discussions about a broken ski, ski building techniques. After a while I got a generous invitation to travel cross the globe and ski in CA. A year later a trip got planned to visit my wife's old friend that lived in CA. After some more investigations we found out that my BOS friend skied less than an hour away from us. I was really exited to ski my first run in USA. We meet at the lake and was received with open warm arms. Great fun skiing even though I skied far below my normal standard (first runs for the season) So I would like not only to give a special thanks to Eric and Lisa for hosting us and showed us such super duper great hospitality but also to BOS for providing the platform for this to happen!! @ELEESKI The BOS forum reaches all over the globe. Do not miss out the opportunity to make new friends! Thanks for reading! Peter PS Eric trick ski rocks! DS
