  1. @SusanT You say you are not going to start a pissing match, yet that is all you are doing....You also act as if you are "elite" by continuing to mention that you live on a private lake. Big friggin deal. I have skied on numerous private lakes, and you are demonstrating a sad point that a very few people seem to think....that you are above others. Quite frankly, I am surprised you have time to post on BoS because of the time commitment it could take away from your career and family and precious ski time!
  2. @SusanT all I can say to that post is WOW! Enjoy your "sacred" family time. Any baller is welcome to come to Utah for a pull from me and about 20 other BoS'ers. I will pull myself away from my family time to take 10 minutes out of my day, and then hopefully spend 2 hours having a drink or dinner getting to know a fellow baller better. My experience of ALL skiers I have met and skied with over the last several years is graciousness, class, appreciation, and it was a pleasure to get to know them. Susan, I will make sure I never ask you for a ski at Lakeside, but if you would like a pull in Utah, the door is always open, and I will gladly share with you my "bindings" because quite frankly, as a whole, all of ours are pretty much the same....
  3. @Bill22 Another important point about being a novice driver outside of what has already been mentioned is this: With the older version of your PP, make sure you adjust your settings on each pass. I get more frustrated about the settings not being altered rather than how straight the pull is. Nothing like coming into a tailwind and keeping the settings for the headwind--come in pretty hot and the times are off. I am also amazed at how many times drivers forget that one little thing.

Also, the way I was taught, I NEVER look in the mirror. As you drive more and more and more, you will learn to feel your way through the course. When pulling guys like @scotchipman into 35 and 38, you can literally tell if they are pulling hard, if they are ahead, if they are late, etc etc. Your adjustments will literally become automatic as you pull more skiers. It is imperative to keep focused ahead of you and not behind.

Lastly, most skiers are damn grateful for the pull, and better skiers are very patient with a person looking to do better. I only have issues with drivers who "think" they are great pullers, and are not open to feedback. Be open and eager to learn, and I don't know a skier on BoS who wouldn't love a pull from you!

  4. This thread makes me think about how the pros were back in the day. At tournaments, when you saw a LaPoint, or Grimditch, McCormick, Cindy Todd, a Duvall, among many other, they were so approachable and accessible to the average wanna be, and they made you feel awesome!!!! Back in the 70's and 80's a pro waterskier was the salt of the Earth!!!!

Fast forward to today, where the average athlete is all about I and all about the money, and all about the ego. They just don't make athletes like that any more........except in water skiing!!!! I have met numerous pro's from the queen of the water to many incredible God's of the shortline, and they still have one thing in common--they are incredibly humble, decent, awesome human beings. Their egos are in check and they love what they do and are grateful to be there!! They are one of the guys...gals!!!!

I love this sport and I love what the elite represent, BUT I still miss my damn EP!!!!!

  5. I quantify it by how much I like them!!! Stay on my good side or you might get a rope burn, or better yet a roller!! :).

I think however this is a great topic. I think it should morph into how a person pula one thru the course. I could really care less how I get pulled up. Hard, soft, etc, but I really care how the pull is once I am up. Here are a few pointers for going thru the course.

    1. Please Don't watch me.

    2. Please Don't make adjustments at the wrong time in my run.

    3. Please have me lined up before the 55's.

    4. Please have me up to speed before the 55's.

    5. Please keep the line straight!

And finally, don't beat yourself up when one of the above don't happen!!! I am grateful for the pull!!!

  6. @SkiJay Can I use some of that rub to put on my ass? I would love to make my old rear end look like brand new! Wait, strike that......uh, how about instead I borrow some for my wife. To hell with my butt, I think I would be happier having her look brand new!!!! :)

And @jdski InTow will cause you to never think about any issues you could ever have with a handle.

  7. Man, this poll is revealing. I am 6 foot 7 and hovering around 260. I truly wonder how much better I would get if I could get down to 225 with my size and strength? I am working like crazy right now to make it happen. If I am truly honest here, at the first of the season I was pushing 285. I finally got sick of how shi%%%y I felt and looked and have been working like crazy for the last couple of months and it is paying off. With that said, if anyone wants to develop incredibly strong arms and a python grip, go ski at 285 and get your fat ass out of the water 6 times each set!!!! Now, I am waiting for the rest of my body to catch up!!!
  8. I am not worried about spiders or snakes for that matter. The thing on my dock that scares me the most is my damn wife....giving me grief for skiing yet again! Is there some sort of spray that can make that one move to a different location?
  9. Zebra mussels are the AIDS of lakes! Once they are there, that is it. We have them now in our lakes down south including powell, and it is only a matter of time til they spread up to utah lake. One thing I would recommend to those of you who have them in your lakes. It is not enough to simply pull the drain, but when I pull my boat out of the water each time, I quickly turn the boat on off so I get the water out of my hoses. The remaining water in my engine will quickly kill any potential mussels because they can't survive in 160 degree water. Kind of like protection for your boat!!!
