Does this picture bother anyone else?   I just look at it and think - why? 

Those skis could be donated to wakeboarders everywhere to lure them from the darkside.    Heck, I need a few good benches on my deck...   Why the waste!!!???!!    Andy - PM me and we'll work out a distribution channel for discarded skis...

True.

There's also another reminder from this picture:  Engineering stuff is expensive.  All the carbon that went into all those test models was not exactly free.

And that means that if ski makers are actually going to make a profit (and thus continue to exist), they have to make up these R&D costs, which are spread over a small number of potential customers, and thus increases the price of each ski sold non-trivially.

Ultimately, I'd rather have this R&D taking place than not, but it's no fun to pay 2 grand for a blank ski, and I do worry what these kind of prices mean for the future of our sport.
