Baller jjackkrash Posted May 1, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 1, 2011 I'd like to add a little rudder torque to the Am. Skier--its pretty neutral right now. Which side do you grind on for a non-nautique (port or starboard side)? I have heard conflicting reports so I'd like to hear from someone who is 100% sure. Any other tips before I start grinding? Thanks, Jack
Baller Dirt Posted May 1, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 1, 2011 Grind the right rear if you want it to pull right. You just round off the right rear trailing edge a bit like an airfoil. Do a small amount at a time and then check it. You can ruin the rudder if you don't know what you are doing. Here is a MC thread. http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/archive/index.php/t-3599.html Mastercraft has a diagram and directions.
Baller eyepeeler Posted May 2, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 2, 2011 Also, you should start feeling the rudder torque at about 26 mph and faster.
Baller jjackkrash Posted May 4, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted May 4, 2011 Thanks for the tips. I may break out the file today if I can work up the nerve.
Baller eyepeeler Posted May 4, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 4, 2011 You will need a grinder. That NIBRAL is tougher than it looks.
Baller Dirt Posted May 4, 2011 Baller Share Posted May 4, 2011 I used an angle grinder with the guard removed and a flap disc ( http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=4+1/2+flap+disc&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=11548557516613645059&sa=X&ei=PZbBTdCuLNLYiALh-bmOAw&ved=0CGQQ8wIwAg# )
Baller jjackkrash Posted May 4, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted May 4, 2011 Hmm, I can do that, but I will need to bring the aircompressor and generator to the lake.
Baller_ DW Posted May 4, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted May 4, 2011 You can use a standard disc on the grinder, just go lightly and with a smooth even motion. Took a few swipes to get what I wanted.
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted May 5, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted May 5, 2011 Aw come-on!! I was hoping to find out how the file thing went :). I have a bad-boy makita grinder with a 10" flat stone that I touch up rudders with. Have not had to do it in a while.
Baller jjackkrash Posted May 5, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted May 5, 2011 I drove the boat Yesterday and had my grinder handy but I had some kinks with Stargazer and my electrical system and I didn't get to the grinder. But I noted that the rudder is dead neutral and the boat floats a bit in the course so it needs to happen. I'll probably take a pass at it this weekend. The boat also lists a bit to port when under power with even weight and I am wondering if a little rudder torque will help with the list. We shall see soon, I suppose. Baller jjackkrash Posted May 21, 2011 Author Baller Share Posted May 21, 2011 Update: I took a little swipe off the rudder with a grinder and it had little effect. I am going to get a little more aggressive and try again.
