kfennell
I am looking at getting a heater shirt today since our water got dramatically colder over night. What thickness shirt do I want for water in the ~70-77 degree range. When it is colder I have a nice full wetsuit so I don't need it to be too hot, but I would like some decent protection, especially since I will be wearing it when I ski in CO next week in a fairly cold lake (but I don't want this to really influence what I buy). I am currently leaning towards this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004I44MF8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER Since I can get it tomorrow for $86 and it will certainly be warm enough but i just want to make sure that it isn't too thick and will restrict me much. I assume that since it is "hyperfreak" that it will be pretty stretchy since the shorts are so great. The other I am looking at is much thinner http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004I44MVW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER I am skiing into 44.5 off at 36 mph so I don't want the shirt to be holding me back. Baller ral Posted September 6, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 6, 2011 0.5 to 1mm. More important than thickness is the interior lining. The silver "titanium" type are much warmer than the normal cloth/reversible ones. Go long sleeve.
kfennell
Do you have a link to one like you are talking about?
IheartJump
up to 2 mm and you won't be restricted... 5 is where it's more like a wetsuit thickness
kfennell
haha what would I be trying to type when I accidently typed 44.5? sounds more like a hallucination to me... and 5 is like wetsuit thickness!!? My wetsuit is only 1.5 mm!
Baller Dirt Posted September 6, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 6, 2011 @kfennell get a long sleeve Oneill Gooru. They are very comfortable. The downside is they don't provide any ballistic protection. I heard what happened. Is it hard to ski with someone shooting at you?
Baller Deke Posted September 6, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 6, 2011 Agree on the Gooru. I wear one between 65 and 70, in Colorado as a matter of fact. If it was possible, I'd wear my down jacket when the water is 60.
kfennell
@Dirt Well the pellets wouldnt really hurt at that distance, but the noise would certainly make it hard to concentrate...
kfennell
Since there are multople votes for the guru I am going to get the 1.5mm one I linked above, it looks pretty much the same.
Baller jayski Posted September 6, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 6, 2011 70-77, that's the warmest our lake gets...no rashie!!! man up...
kfennell
well when you are used to 95 and then the next day it is 73 it is kind of abrupt? Maybe once I get it I wont wear it in the 77 degree water. That's not THAT cold...
Supporting Member Than_Bogan Posted September 6, 2011 Supporting Member Share Posted September 6, 2011 I'm a big fan a Chillskin over a short sleeved Rash Guard. I use this essentially all summer long in MA, except on rare occasions where I manage to ski during the warm part of the day. I find almost no restriction and a big increase in warmth. Supporting Member Than_Bogan Posted September 6, 2011 Supporting Member Share Posted September 6, 2011 Chillskin: http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=13143&pdesc=Gladiator_Chill_Skin_Pullover Warning: The rash gaurd underneath is not just for added warmth. If you put on a Chillskin over bare skin, you will most likely have to ask for assistance both on and off.
Baller_ lpskier Posted September 6, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted September 6, 2011 In Pennsylvania, a "heater top" is known as a "chicken shirt." Lpskier
Supporting Member Than_Bogan Posted September 6, 2011 Supporting Member Share Posted September 6, 2011 I will never understand why anyone would ski cold. What a ridiculous way to lose buoys.
Baller Ham_Wallace Posted September 6, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 6, 2011 Neo shirts are allowed below 55 degrees in Tennessee. Pony up!
Baller Chuck_Dickey Posted September 7, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 7, 2011 I'd rather be a little too warm than a little cold. Eagle makes some good heaters and so does Jet Pilot, F-35's are the best I've found. http://www.jetpilot.com/jetpilot/product/?catID=32&prodID=
phatty5693
I got a 1.5mm LS Hyperlite top, brand new I would sell you. $40 shipped. 74* is the warmest I get all year and since I am usually skiing early before work, I just use a wetsuit. kfennell
I need to bring this thread back to life, I got that suit and it is just such a pain to get on and off, it takes like half my energy to get it on and then I dont think I will ski well :) I wanted to get an eagle zip up once I realized that ease of use ws important to me but they are sold out right now... What do I do? Are the jet pilot ones that are partly lycra easier to get on?
kfennell
I called miami ski nautique and they said to keep the one I have and nothing else is really better.. I guess I need to get skinnier?
Supporting Member Than_Bogan Posted September 8, 2011 Supporting Member Share Posted September 8, 2011 Did you wear a short-sleeved rash guard under it? It sure looks similar to the Chillskin, and that things sticks to your skin and itself like it's coated in glue UNLESS you have a rash gaurd underneath, in which case it slides on and off relatively easily (with proper technique). Baller ral Posted September 8, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2011 @Kfennell, which one you have?
kfennell
Oneill hyperfreak 1.5mm, I did not have a rash guard on underneath though. I will go try that out. If noone hears abck from me it's because I am stuck in my shirt and noone is around to help me.
kfennell
Turns out you were right than, I tried it with the rash guard and it was 50% easier on and 95% easier to get off I would say. Good advice.
