mrpreuss
I added a single straight wing to the front of my fin in the normal ventral position and loved it. The ski felt faster and smoother. How is yours?
Baller scuppers Posted September 15, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 15, 2011 Single to the front on an A2 - Hated it!
Baller ForrestGump Posted September 15, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 15, 2011 Liked the single front ventral on my Elite. Didn't like it on my Goode Mid.
Baller scoke Posted September 15, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 15, 2011 Will not ski without it. If it fell off, I wouldn't ski until I got another one.
Baller Ed_Johnson Posted September 15, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 15, 2011 Tried one, two, and three Ventrals on three different skis: Nano: Worked best with Mini Ventral front and the standard wing rear: ie: Chad Scott Sans Rival SR-2: Mini Ventral front and Std. wing rear. While the Nano had a huge improvement in performance, the Sans just became MUCH more stable. Lost 90% of the twitchyness waiting for the pullout. HO S-2: Mini Ventral front and Large Ventral rear set to 7 degrees. Better speed cross course and stabilized the turns considerably. Ski had a tendency to easily overturn prior to that. Baller_ Wish Posted September 15, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted September 15, 2011 Just a min ventral up front. Would not ski without it. Stable and sooo much faster on the Goode9800sl
Baller Ham_Wallace Posted September 16, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2011 Works well. Ventral also plays well with others.
Baller jackski Posted September 16, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2011 Tried one, two & three on Nano std. One up front is great. Two small, one front, one rear on top and std foil on bottom tracks a little better through the wakes than the single. Three in the standard setup, (big one top back) is not good for a std ski. I think the big wing is necessary for stability which is lost in that setup. A bigger big ventral for std skis may be the hot setup.
Baller skibug Posted September 16, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2011 I tried both a traditional ventral (Goode style with downward wings) and a modified wing that was shaved down to the size of a ventral on my 2007 Nomad RC. Ran both with and without regular wing in the front position (like Ham Wallace pics). Best set up was the flat, shaved down wing in the front location of the fin, no regular wing. This provided the best combination of tracking and speed; although cross course speed was slightly compromised and I had to stay on the handle longer/stronger to make sure the ski didnt shut down or initiate the preturn too soon. Stability did increase slightly and tip stayed down more through the wakes. All that said, i took it off and went with the traditional wing for most of the season. I ran the ventral again about a week ago and it felt good; but, still felt better on just the standard wing. Riding an Elite now, so i might try it on that as speed cross course is not an issue. Baller scoke Posted September 16, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2011 skibug, good write up. Where you riding an actual Raley-Ventral or something you made? I have an extra I can snail mail you if you would like to try it. Thanks.
Baller skibug Posted September 16, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2011 Shane H, Was your set up just the front ventral; or, was that with a normal wing as well?
Baller skibug Posted September 16, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2011 scoke, Thanks for the offer, I will keep it in mind. I made my own psuedo Raley-Ventral (downward angle wings) designed in 3D CAD (Solid Works) and machined in a CNC machine. Also, modified / cut down a normal wing (no downward angle) to the size of the front ventral. I found the flat/modified wing to be a better set up for the Nomad. I think I will start with the flat ventral wing on the Elite; but, maybe not until next year as I am still trying to get it dialed in and I only have a month to 6 weeks of the season left. Baller scoke Posted September 16, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2011 Skibug, good stuff that you've done it the right way. I'll mail anyone a ventral to try if they are interested and will return it.
SM
I tried one and found it made my ski heavier, sort of like moving the DFT back too far. I only run 7 degrees on my regular wing and putting more metal on my fin just created too much drag. I'm guessing I would have to switch to a mini wing in the back to compensate. Here is my prototype post Ventral epoxy composite fin. I betting if I drill a bunch more holes in specific places and filled them with more flexible epoxy, I could target exactly where I wanted to add fin flex and better control the finish of my turns:)

EF23
Scoke, what is your setup? I run three all tips down, and love it! This was setup by Chet in July. Just want to hear if there has been any updates?

SM
O brien quattro. I have a buddy that also has one and he doesn't use a ventral either but swears by it on his S2.
Baller Ed_Obermeier Posted September 18, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2011 How about you Strada skiers who have tried it? Would love to hear some opinions on how it works on the Strada. Ed
Baller scoke Posted September 18, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2011 My setup was a 67.25" Regular 9900. It was setup for 35/38 at 36 but i've had a speed change and am transitioning to M3 so my ski isn't ideal. Right now, I am looking to test a few skis for my next level of skiing : 2007 Monza System 8 Connelly V Strada 2004 HO Truth Not sure the ventral will work on these skis. Baller Ed_Johnson Posted September 18, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 18, 2011 Scoke, Start with the HO S-2 and the Connelly V for 34. I believe you will like the stepped bottom, and yes, the Ventral works well on the S-2. Actually 2 works best.
Baller_ The_MS Posted September 18, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted September 18, 2011 Scoke, Start with the 07 Monza. Cant go wrong. I would also try the RS1 and then the Strada. I ran the Ventral on the Monza and it was great.
Baller scoke Posted September 19, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 19, 2011 It looks like lots of chatter about a ski called a "vogue" or something? Wonder how well the ventral performs on it. High probability the cat lady of skis has one of these gem skis.
Baller Not_The_Pug Posted September 19, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 19, 2011 I would like to try one or two on my S2 based on Ed's suggestion in another post. Anyone one have a small or large they want to sell? Just have not decided if they are worth the Goode price or not. Guess I will just have to get some and see. Baller_ RichardDoane Posted September 19, 2011 Baller_ Share Posted September 19, 2011 I made my own, tried it for a while, but then the honeymoon was over and I took it off, I make more mistakes than any fin contraption will ever overcome. Baller scoke Posted September 20, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 20, 2011 after reading a few reviews, the connely F1-strada-phantom truth are all vying for my attention. Not sure which one is worthy of a ventral.
Baller MrJones Posted September 20, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 20, 2011 You would not want any more drag on an F1. Good ski though.

Baller LeonL Posted September 21, 2011 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2011 I tried a mini ventral (homemade) on the front of a speed-slot fin on an RCX. Just slowed the ski down too much. Too hard to
