New Reflex Boot with Old 404 Release

Will the newer Reflex Boots work with the old 404 release mechanisms? My son's boot is cracking and he uses it on both his slalom and trick ski. Would prefer not to replace all of it.

I would call or email reflex, I think that the 500 release uses a different block on the back of the boot. You might be able to order an old block for a new boot

Now that I thought about it, you could probably remove the block (or cleat not sure what it's called) off the old boot and put it on the new boot.

Kelvin the 404 and 500 release has a different dimension from the plate to the top of the heel cleat. I wouldnt mix the two without adjusting that dimension. You should be able to get that info from the reflex site.

You could drill out the heal block on the old boot and the same on the new and just re rivet the old block to the new boot

Someone told me you can flip the new block over and the height is the same as on the old block. I went through this with my son last year and found a used boot. Reflex's response was that the new stuff is better so I should replace everything. That is an expensive proposition when you need two complete set ups. I already found a used older boot in the next size up.

The older releases are prone to break at the welded cross bar seen it happen ugly. Had it happen to me very painfull. The 500 release with the new white top slalom boot works great.

Chef23 is right just flip the block over and it fits the 404 release
