Baller jipster43 Posted August 14, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 14, 2012 I'm ready to mount my custom G10 plate (thanks Teammalibu!) to my Goode Fire and wondered if anyone had any hints or tips for installing the Dual Lock to my G10 plate (400) and to my ski (250). I am not looking to release - my Radar RS-1's work great in that respect. I just want my Dual Lock to align nicely and have my plate sit on the ski squarely. Thanks! Baller jipster43 Posted August 14, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 14, 2012 Oh! How long do you have to wait before skiing on it? & should I clamp it down while it "cures"?
Baller jipster43 Posted August 15, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2012 I've applied the 400 to my G10 plate and I've applied the 250 to my ski, but it doesn't want to snap together easily. Are there any secrets to mating the two? I've used a quick grip bar clamp to secure the sides, but I can't do that where the boots sit.
Baller jipster43 Posted August 15, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2012 I tried putting my feet in the boots and standing on it to seei if that would help, but as soon as I pulled up with my feet it all unsnapped. I'm beginning to rethink this dual lock stuff.
KM
I mate the 250 to the 400 on the plate. Then I peel off the backing and carefully place the plate onto the ski.
Baller jipster43 Posted August 15, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2012 Thanks Scot! What type of surface do you place the ski on when you start pounding on it?! I tried doing that on my work bench, but I was too hesitant to pound it hard enough to be effective.
Baller jipster43 Posted August 15, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2012 Thanks again Scot! I can't express in words the difficulty I had hammering on my precious ski, but I finally mustered up the courage and I should be able to ski on it tomorrow morning. I appreciate your help! Baller jipster43 Posted August 15, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 15, 2012 Thanks KM! I missed your post previously. I considered using your application method initially, but I felt it required a long sustained level of precision that I'm not capable of. I'm just glad it's all done! Skihack
I am having trouble as well. I bought the dual lock 3551 and it is not locking together.
Baller ForrestGump Posted July 10, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 10, 2013 @skimech Are you saying that you are trying to lock the 400 to 400?
Skihack
Yes didn't see comment where u can't mate to itself. Got some 250 on the way. Don't want it to release as it is a reflex on it.
Baller jipster43 Posted July 11, 2013 Author Baller Share Posted July 11, 2013 @scotchipman what is the best way to unlock 250(ski) from 400(plate)? I'm afraid of permanently marring my ski.
Baller ForrestGump Posted July 11, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 11, 2013 For dual lock I keep a rubber mallet and 1 inch wooden dowel. You can then lay the wooden dowel across the ski behind the back of the plate. Put a long screwdriver or prybar under the edge of the plate and pry down across the dowel, using it as a fulcrum. londonskier
As we are talking Dual Lock, I just has to remove the old tape and glue from the plate. I tried everything, goo gone, adhesive remover, nothing worked. Then I used silicone remover, left it 3 hours and Bingo! It came off.
Baller A_B Posted July 12, 2013 Baller Share Posted July 12, 2013 I so what @ShaneHill does for tapping down and prying up. An old wooden broom handle cutoff to a few inches above the bindings makes a good whacker on a fin too!
