Baller Ilivetoski Posted August 27, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 27, 2012 @LeonL I need your help. My rear to inserts fell out of my ski yesterday. Along with my screws. Now I have 2 holes that are very large in the back of my ski. I want to put some holes in a little farther up so that I can have screws in the back, so can I come to your place sometime this week and have you drill? It is in the back to it is very thin and I dont want to drill through the ski. Hopefully will only have to use this ski through saturday.
Baller Chef23 Posted August 27, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 27, 2012 @livetoski aren't you on a relatively new Strada? I would call Radar first thing this morning and explain to them what happened.
Baller Ilivetoski Posted August 27, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 27, 2012 @Chef23 No, I am on a Radar RS-1. Getting a new strada at the end of the season though... I am skiing 1 tournment on the RS-1 which is at my lake this weekend then im done with it.
Baller Ilivetoski Posted August 27, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 27, 2012 @Chef23 the inserts began to come up at nationals, and Sully and Rossi rigged it for me and said its a temporary fix and I need a new ski. Well the temporary ended.
Baller Chef23 Posted August 27, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 27, 2012 @ilivetoski if you are going to get a new ski anyway at the end of the season I would just drill new holes and put sheet metal screws in with epoxy. I would also fill the old ones with epoxy.
Baller Ilivetoski Posted August 27, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 27, 2012 Thats where @LeonL comes in. It is in the back (thin part) and I dont want my dad to do it (he does not have any experience fixing or drilling skis) and I have some but not much... I would rather someone with experience do it. bogboy
If you still have the inserts (or if you don't, you can get some from Wiley's), you might want to enlarge the holes a little, make sure the depth is shimmed even with the ski, pour in some mixed 2 part epoxi with a syringe, and drop in the inserts, making sure they are centered. I put inserts in my old b.f.s, this way, and it worked pretty well.
Baller LeonL Posted August 28, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2012 @llivetoski, I'll probably be here most every day/evening. Got mowing and misc stuff to do prior to the tournament Saturday. (weather forecast looks bad for Sat.) Come on out, we'll fix it. Bring your old inserts and we'll see what we can do with them. Otherwise we'll just shoot some screws in and move on to the next ski. Baller Ilivetoski Posted August 28, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 28, 2012 @LeonL ok sounds good. I do not have the inserts, they fell off while I was skiing. What do I need? I assume some epoxy and screws? I can bring a drill but what else for the drilling?
Baller Roger Posted August 28, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2012 Are you sure the screws and inserts are missing? I'm not seeing how that's possible. If the insert comes out of the ski, isn't the insert and screw still attached to the binding plate? I've had inserts come out before, but the screw and insert were always still in the plate... Baller Steven_Haines Posted August 28, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2012 You can buy new inserts and screws at Home Depot or Lowes. That's an easy fix!
Baller LeonL Posted August 28, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2012 @llivetoski, I'm with @Roger, how did the old inserts get away? Anyway, if you get a chance drop by Lowes and shop for some. And again, since you're moving away from the Rs-1 we can just drive some screws in.
Baller Ilivetoski Posted August 28, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 28, 2012 @Roger the inserts began coming out at nationals, as you know the inserts hold in the screws. When the inserts came out it took the screw with them. I have a Radar universal plate and the back mini plate came off as well. The carbon around the insert began to crack and made 2 large holes (where both the inserts were) and I assume as the hole got bigger it gave more wiggle room for the insert until I guess I made a turn or cut through the wakes and boom they poped out. Baller Ilivetoski Posted August 28, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted August 28, 2012 @LeonL what do I need for the drilling? I know I need a drill, epoxy, im about to go to lowes and get the epoxy. Do I need any additional screws (I have some) a drill bit?
Baller LeonL Posted August 29, 2012 Baller Share Posted August 29, 2012 @llivetoski, bring all your screws. I have some, I think.
