best place to buy a Caliper

I am tired of relying on other people to get my fin set up, figure I should invest in my own caliper. Any suggestions on where to get one?

I have a Digital Caliper, same Caliper used on the Slot Caliper that sells for $125. This one is standard without the Slot. $45....eaj38off at aol dot com.

Harbor Freight has digital calipers pretty cheap. No slot, but they're not $125 either.

I agree with @scotchipman. You'll end up buying three cheap ones and still need to get the right one. It makes it all so easy once you get some technique.

Have caliper -- need caliper usage lessons! An engineer friend showed me about 5 things that I didn't know in about 2 minutes!

I'm still using my 6" caliper from harbor freight that I bought on sale for $10 5-6 years ago. The 6" caliper isn't ideal for measure fin length but I make a scribe mark at 4" and measure the rest for total distance. The key to that way is ensuring you system is accurate and repeatable. Might help to verify your measurements with someone else's 8" calipers.They sell longer calipers that are just as good but I already had the 6" and it's working well.

I also picked up a set of 9" calipers digital from harbor freight. I was concerned about performance but they work and repeat!

Same on HF caliper, they work fine and are very inexpensive. Cheap to replace if it happens to go overboard! Get yourself a known block to check calibration if you feel the need.
