Baller SkiJay Posted September 20, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 20, 2012 Ventrals have been around for a couple of years now. Is the concept taking hold or on the endangered species list?
Baller SkiJay Posted September 20, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted September 20, 2012 Sorry about the previous incomplete version of this poll. If you hit "enter" at any time while building the poll, bam ... it goes live with no more editing of the choices.

Baller SkiJay Posted September 20, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted September 20, 2012 Yes ... :p This time, I was trying to change the order of a couple options and hit enter before I had a chance to include the options: - I've tried a ventral in the past but I am still undecided - I am curious but haven't yet taken the plunge and @auskier raised another valid option: - I don't feel any need to have a ventral Note to self: Setting up a poll is a lot like a tournament set, you only get one crack at it, no do-overs. Sigh .....
Baller SkiJay Posted September 20, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted September 20, 2012 Meanwhile, back on the topic of ventrals. Did those of you who have tried or who continue to use a forward ventral find any fin changes were necessary after installing your ventral? Baller Ed_Johnson Posted September 20, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 20, 2012 Same fin settings, but the fwd ventral helped to keep the tip down off the apex...This also helped to carry more speed through the turn..A big plus for me was that the ski was much more stable, and by having a fwd mini ventral at zero degrees, plus the large ventral at the stock rear spot set at 6 degrees, you have less drag....The ski becomes more efficient...It is like removeing the stock wing performance wise, but still keeping the stability a wing gives you. Gold Member Than_Bogan Posted September 20, 2012 Gold Member Share Posted September 20, 2012 Has anyone been using ventrals on the Nano One? I've never tried one and don't currently have any plans to, but I'm always curious. The ski seems so stable that more wings seems like the wrong direction, but intuition is often useless when it comes to this stuff!!
Baller Ed_Johnson Posted September 20, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 20, 2012 Waiting for some evaluation on the 66"N1 before I order one...I guarantee, one of the first things I would do is slap a Carbon Fin with two ventrals, to check it's performance...Has worked so well on the 9960 Mid, Nano Mid, Sans SR2, and the S2. Baller SkiJay Posted September 20, 2012 Author Baller Share Posted September 20, 2012 @Ed Johnson Where did you get your carbon fin? Is it one of the current Reflex carbon fins or something irreplaceable you've had for a long time?
Ryno
I run a forward ventral on my Sans Rival SR2, with the carbon fin and rear wing. Very happy with the performance. It made the ski less squirrelly, yet is still fast and quick to edge change. Also I've never had a tail blowout since adding a ventral.
Baller Ed_Johnson Posted September 20, 2012 Baller Share Posted September 20, 2012 @SkiJay......The Carbon Fin I use came with the Sans Rival...It is very thin and weights about as much as paper. Shape is virtually identical to a HO or Goode Fin...You can purchase one from any Sans Rival Dealer for about $125.
Baller_ DW Posted September 21, 2012 Baller_ Share Posted September 21, 2012 Use a forward ventral and it acts very much as Ed J describes. I also find it to smooth out that tip rise, hitch and go feeling or as Ed indicates, carry more speed at the end of the turn. Pretty much a personal preference tuning tool for one's ski.
