Baller jcamp Posted March 20, 2014 Baller Share Posted March 20, 2014 I'm shopping for a used boat and have found a good deal on one ... problem is the seller (who is 1,000 miles away) says that there is "a small stress crack on the gunnel we'll above the water line. It's on the gas cap from the service tech over tightening a screw." How big of a problem is this? Fortunately, the guy is close to @jody_seal so I'd pay Jody to take a look at it for me, if he does that kind of work. But is the crack big enough of an issue that I should just save my time and money and keep looking?
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted March 20, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted March 20, 2014 We do that kind of work. What kind of boat is it? where is it? Maybe I know the boat.
Baller vtjc Posted March 20, 2014 Baller Share Posted March 20, 2014 What year is the boat? If its as described its probably just a cosmetic issue. If Jody is nearby I would have him check out the entire boat before buying.
Baller Jordan Posted March 20, 2014 Baller Share Posted March 20, 2014 If it really is from over tightening a screw on the gas cap holder, it is only cosmetic and is an easy fix. Have it checked out, and decide if the cost of repair is worth it in light of the deal you can negotiate.
Baller XR6Hurricane Posted March 21, 2014 Baller Share Posted March 21, 2014 I wouldn't give it a second thought. Gel cracks very easily from something like that. Don't let it deter you if the rest of the deal seems like it's right.
Baller Waternut Posted March 21, 2014 Baller Share Posted March 21, 2014 I highly doubt it's an issue. The back of the boat is pretty stout. Can't hurt to get a locals second opinion though.
Baller ctsmith Posted March 21, 2014 Baller Share Posted March 21, 2014 Say its a good deal? The fiberglass stress would scare me away. Can you please provide the contact info. (grin) Seriously, fixing fiberglass is easy. No dig deal.
Baller jcamp Posted March 21, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted March 21, 2014 Thanks everyone. I'm in touch with Jody and think I'm going to have him take a look. It's nice to have an expert like him in the area.
