Baller PAskier Posted September 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 13, 2014 Can anyone recommend a good strapless boat cover for trailering at highway speed for a 2008 SN196? I am Towing from Pa to FL. My old cover left a couple of marks on the boat last from the straps and it is shot. I talked to a SN dealer and the price of strapless was going to be over $1400 dollars. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Baller oldjeep Posted September 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 13, 2014 I've got one made by commercial sewing on my Malibu. http://commercialsewing.com/view-product.php?page=Marine&tab=Mooring%2FTrailerable+Covers Also a good idea to make a couple wraps around the boat with stretch wrap before putting the cover on for a long trip so that the gel coat doesn't get micro scratches in it. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Pratt-Retail-Specialties-20-in-x-1000-ft-Stretch-Film-5005002/202029370
Baller BlueSki Posted September 13, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 13, 2014 If you are in western PA and willing to drive a few hours I can point you to a great shop
Baller foxriverat Posted September 17, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 17, 2014 @oldjeep The stretch wrap is a great idea. I use it for a lot of things. Never thought of that though.
Baller oldjeep Posted September 17, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 17, 2014 I can't take credit for it, was suggested by someone on another board. It also protects the vinyl on the rear hatch corner. Cheap insurance for the couple times a year that I tow with the cover on for long trips. With a mostly dark blue and black boat I try to stop any rubs because they are so visible.
Baller BrennanKMN Posted September 17, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 17, 2014 Brent at Cover Sports is awesome. He can be a little hard to get a hold of but makes some of the best covers. I would not consider anything else. http://www.cover-sports.com/index.html I will see if I can get his phone number from my old order.
Baller skinut Posted September 17, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 17, 2014 +1 to cover sports. I had them make one for my 200 and it is fantastic to travel with. theprocover@gmail.com
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted September 17, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted September 17, 2014 I second The commercial sewing cover. Just make sure the strap / pole structure is in place and you can run at 90 if you like. Micro scratches?
Baller oldjeep Posted September 17, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 17, 2014 @Jody_Seal I don't know what else to call them - basically just scuffs, swirl marks in the gelcoat like you took a scrubby sponge to it. It really shows on dark colors. Nice cover, I wish mine had the cleat pockets in it. I heard they also improved the cover for the ratchets in the back. http://oldjeep.com/images/LakeVermilionJune2014/photos/photo189.jpg http://oldjeep.com/images/LakeVermilionJune2014/photos/photo165.jpg
east tx skier
Another plug for Brent at Coversports. Works well on the highway. I have towed through a monsoon with it on and the boat remained bone dry and as scratch free as before.
Baller PAskier Posted September 20, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted September 20, 2014 I like the look of the commercial sewing cover and contacted them and was told they do not sell to the public and I had to go through Nautique. My local guy quoted $1400. I Will try Coversports this week Thanks all I appreciate the help
Baller oldjeep Posted September 20, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 20, 2014 Yes, you do have to go through your local boat dealer. FWIW the Malibu version for a 20ft boat is supposedly around $900 MSRP
Baller jhughes Posted September 20, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 20, 2014 @east tx skier again that boat is so hot it's ridiculous. I have the Coversports-style cover (a Rankin, before they went out of business). It's an amazing cover, well worth the price.
east tx skier
@jhughes Thanks, Joel. We're hoping to get it on the water a few more times this year.
