Baller A_B Posted September 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 29, 2014 Anyone try this? Sounds like a good way to balance all the gripping that we do in skiimg. Also may help golfer and tennis elbow issues. Makes sense to me. http://handxband.com
Baller LZywicki1 Posted September 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 29, 2014 I've been using something like that at PT. Might just be me learning how to re-grip but both my shoulder and elbow hurt after stretching the fingers that way. Larry -----<|
Baller cragginshred Posted September 30, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 30, 2014 @AB if you could do this with out flaring your extensors it certainly would strengthen them. In the PT clinic we would focus on stretching the extensors, ice then once the patient is in a late sub acute phase of healing introduce eccentric release of an extension exercise like this. One thing to really understand is your strongest grip is with the wrist in slight extension -so there is a co-contraction occurring meaning extensors contracting with flexors while holding the ski handle.....thus the real need is to stretch the smaller extensor muscles which are over worked and due to being smaller in relation to the forearm flexors usually more common to be flared and present with lateral epicondylitis. Hope this made sense! @onamission if your elbow hurt you should have been stretching instead of strengthening. The handxband is a strengthening tool. A flared up lateral elbow in an acute stage of healing should never do this if they want to get better,...jus my 2 cents!
Baller A_B Posted September 30, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted September 30, 2014 These come in 3 levels, so would using the light band with higher reps help condition them for the rigors of skiing, or is stretching a better alternative, even if there is no elbow issues? Baller cragginshred Posted September 30, 2014 Baller Share Posted September 30, 2014 Do you ever feel like you will let go because of the extensors? If yes then go for it 'non aggravating, low resistance high reps' would be key. If the answer is no, I would would do core training, hip and leg stetting with a lot of cardio as a better use of time instead.
Supporting Member Than_Bogan Posted September 30, 2014 Supporting Member Share Posted September 30, 2014 I find myself wondering if that might be a great aid to those of us who pound a keyboard for a living? I'm thinking about ordering one for my office!
