kstateskier
Need help ballers! I'm trying to remove the prop shaft in my 04 LXI. I have the proper 1 1/16th socket but there isn't enough space between the coupler face and the transmission output to get a ratchet on the socket. I have already loosened the retaining screw. Is there a trick? Special socket thats made shallow? Im hoping the answer isn't "cut down the socket". Any help would be appreciated. Baller oldjeep Posted May 25, 2015 Baller Share Posted May 25, 2015 Pass through sockets have an external hex on them that you can use an open end wrench on. Tho is a full set, but I think you can buy singles. http://www.amazon.com/Crescent-CX6PT20-Pass-Through-Ratchet-20-Piece/dp/B009L8GEPM
Baller oldjeep Posted May 25, 2015 Baller Share Posted May 25, 2015 Here is a 1 1/16, but this style requires the craftsman handle. http://m.craftsman.com/craftsman-1-16inch-max-axess-socket-1-2-inch/p-00938985000P?prdNo=15&blockNo=15&blockType=G15
kstateskier
In case anyone else runs into this issue I welded a 1 1/16 socket to a piece of flat steel and another socket on the other end. The 1 1/16th fit into my prop shaft area and the flat bar stuck up in the air where I could get a breaker bar on it. Worked like a charm.
Baller oldjeep Posted May 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted May 26, 2015 I'd give you crap about those welds, but looks like it held ;)
Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted May 26, 2015 Baller_ Share Posted May 26, 2015 I have both a welded version and a cut down socket, Also have a shop made press tool to pop the tapered coupler end off with out having to utilize a slide hammer.
