Nautique96
This summer my 1996 Ski Nautique's steering has been extremely tight. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Baller eleeski Posted July 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 26, 2015 New steering cable? Normal maintenence... Eric
Baller_ MISkier Posted July 26, 2015 Baller_ Share Posted July 26, 2015 My old MasterCraft steering tightened up like that. Cable replacement was the answer. Do a little troubleshooting to rule out rudder or column issues, but I'm betting on the cable (especially if it is original). The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears. Baller_ Wish Posted July 26, 2015 Baller_ Share Posted July 26, 2015 My 97 has a grease fitting on the rudder box itself. Couple squirts with a grease gun and done.
Baller oldjeep Posted July 27, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 27, 2015 Disconnect cable from rudder, check how hard it is to turn. If still hard then cable, rack or tilt unit. If easy then rudder box.
Baller igkya Posted July 27, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 27, 2015 Check the steering cable near rudder. Ours had some build up and once we cleaned that off, the steering was great again.
Nautique96
Thanks for the help guys! I'll take a look at the cable tomorrow
Baller_ DW Posted July 27, 2015 Baller_ Share Posted July 27, 2015 @Nautique96: One trick on the cable if it is stiff: remove at tiller & tilt cable up, pop off the rubber seal, slowly pour some ATF down the cable and articulate left to right along the process. Might free it up for you.
