Baller OldboyII Posted September 2, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 2, 2015 Comrades, My skiing experiense is short and conected to lake. Is there something to keep in mind going for skiing holidays on the seaside? Thanks!
Baller skialex Posted September 2, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 2, 2015 Not really, salt water is faster and ski rides higher but it is easy to adapt. I would worry more about choppy conditions and rollers! I ski 20-30% in salt water and my scores are about the same. Also during winter salt water tends to stay warmer as the sea temperature droppes in a slower rate than the lake and weather conditions are usually better! Good luck Alex,
Baller Stathis Ventouris Posted September 2, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 2, 2015 Ski 70% in salt water and 30% in fresh water training PB's and performance are identical. Also used to ski 90% in tournaments on salt water but for the last 4 years only in fresh water and my PB's are about the same (1-2 buoys improvement but due to technique and equipment improvements). Baller Jordan Posted September 2, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 2, 2015 Just make sure to rinse the salt off of your gear when you are finished.

Baller OldboyII Posted September 2, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted September 2, 2015 Greece. In fact I started to ski in Greece, but at that moment the the only thing for me was my struggle with deep water start. This year spend hundred hours on the lake. Probably sea will feel like something new.
Baller skialex Posted September 2, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 2, 2015 I thought so, I live in Greece, if you are heading to Poros or Porto Heli, both places are more like lakes, very protected with no rollers! If you are heading to Chalkida again it is very well protected from the North winds and they have a second course for South wind. Sometimes you might get rollers from other boats but overall is a great place too. I ski there a lot, it is the closest to Athens. Also Nate Smirh is coming to Chalkida in 10 days time for a skiing clinic! Have fun!
Baller OldboyII Posted September 2, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted September 2, 2015 Thank you for info! For next year I will think about holiday more devoted to ski. This time we go for family holiday to Evia. Ski for me and white sand with pine trees for wife ))

Baller sunvalleylaw Posted September 2, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 2, 2015 Grew up skiing south Puget Sound (Fox Island, Horsehead Bay (where they even used to have a course, though it tended to bend when the tide was running hard), Wollochet Bay, Hood Canal, etc. Love it!! The ski is so fast and responsive feeling to me in that water. Have fun!
Baller sunvalleylaw Posted September 3, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 3, 2015 One other thought, in open public salt water with a tide, mid or low tide tends to have better conditions. The wakes die on the shallow beaches, in Puget Sound anyway, so that a couple boats can be out and the water can still be ok with no rollers or reverb if you time it right as compared to the other users. (Saturday mid day excepted). If the tide is up such that the retaining walls on people's yards are getting wet, the water is much less enjoyable to ski. Even if no one else was out, if the tide was up at Horsehead, you would get some reverb in a place or two, just from your own boat.
Baller ALPJr Posted September 3, 2015 Baller Share Posted September 3, 2015 Grew up and skied for 18 seasons in the saltwater estuaries of the Great Egg Harbor in southern NJ. Also spent two seasons in Berkeley Aquatic Park. No problems just rinse well after you're done.
