2015 Prostar Passenger Side Ballast Question

Question for Prostar owners. Because MC has bad owners manuals where every current year model boat is combined into a single manual, I'm unable to find anything on the passenger side ballast in the Prostar. The ballast has never been used before, and I hit the button to fill it and it immediately switched off. So I notice in the engine box there was a flow valve that ran to the pump. I open the flow valve and hit the button again and then the ballast began working perfectly, but then the engine immediately overheated. I then closed the valve and the temp came down to normal range. What am I missing?

Wonder if it is a diverter valve that you can fill the ballast with from the raw water intake. However if the lever is left close/diverted to the ballast then the engine won't get the raw water intake. But - that just seems a bit too silly/not smart for Mastercraft not to do that. This is just a wild guess. Hopefully someone chimes in that has one!
