Baller Orlando76 Posted October 25, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 25, 2015 Oh wow. I wanted to click awesome but it's not awesome some of those people were beaten up. I feel guilty for laughing at a few. Hope all are healed up now and ready to swerve.
Baller klindy Posted October 25, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 25, 2015 Awesome edit @Kelvin. The guy about 5 min in with the cape is classic!!
Baller Kelvin Posted October 25, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted October 25, 2015 Amazingly, there were only 2 injuries for the whole tournament with only one of the injuries making it into the video. Needless to say, I'm glad I wasn't the safety director for this one.

Baller ToddL Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 @MattP - new stat for you to track... # of Jump Falls vs. Ride outs at Collegiate Nats. That was a lot of falls!
Baller webbdawg99 Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 I was driving the slalom skier/attempted barefooter at 0:25. Needless to say, that was a first.

Baller MattP Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 @ToddL I can tell you 86% of jumpers at Nats landed a jump. Feel free to re watch all the jumping to get number of falls & ride outs...
Baller ToddL Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 I guess NCWSA Nats scorebooks do not show all three jump attempt results. No biggie. Just curious.
Baller webbdawg99 Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 Sorry @ShaneH . Introducing myself as webbdawg felt like it would've been a little awkward!
Baller Kelvin Posted October 26, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 @ToddL, for the D2 women there is a high percentage (approx 35%) that did not land a jump. There is a push to allow a 4.5 foot ramp for all collegiate women to give more of them a chance to ride out a jump. I believe this would be a good thing for the sport. It would definitely shorten my video next year.
Baller MattP Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 @Kelvin Push? I believe it is in the rule book and an option during team online registration( I know it is in the SAC and East). It makes pulling Nationals & Regionals difficult because it is a seeded event and the ramp would need to be changed back and forth after the 4.5 skier to the next 5' skier. It would take a LOT of time. It is not used frequently in the SAC but we do talk about it and it has come up again recently to pull the first timers/ new jumpers at 4.5' or for them to have the option to do so. Hopefully we will be using this rule more in the spring and next fall.
Baller rodltg2 Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 I'm having second thought about learning to jump after watching this !
Baller DefectiveDave Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 Holy crap. I'm not sure how the rules work in this case, but please tell me the guy at 25 seconds at least got credit for getting back to centerline.
Baller Broussard Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 I believe a 4.5 ft ramp would be safer for girls learning to jump, but also understand the issues with seeding. .
Baller klindy Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 At traditional AWSA tournaments all those at a specific ramp height are grouped together regardless of seeding. It prevents changing tge ramp between a lot of skiers. Since ALL collegiate jumping is at 5 foot it's likely never been an issue. A 4.5' ramp makes a lot of sense. A potential side problem is that many ramps can't go as low as 4.5'.
Baller webbdawg99 Posted October 26, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 26, 2015 @DefectiveDave I'm pretty sure you have to be in a skiing position per the rule books. I bet @Detrick taught him that "don't let go no matter what" move.
Baller gregy Posted October 27, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 27, 2015 @defectivedave I'll give him credit for keeping his swimsuit on. That was amazing feat in itself. Those kids are tough. Some brutal falls.
Baller Kelvin Posted October 27, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted October 27, 2015 @MattP, current NCWSA rules only allow a jump ramp lower than 5ft for B team. A .235 ramp will be used for both men and women. At the discretion of the LOC, a lower ramp angle may be used for B team competition. A 4.5 foot ramp should be allowed for A team as well. Supporting Member Than_Bogan Posted October 28, 2015 Supporting Member Share Posted October 28, 2015 I might enter jump if they had a one foot ramp (that was also shorter for a similar angle). Maybe...
Baller Broussard Posted October 30, 2015 Baller Share Posted October 30, 2015 @Than_Bogan What about 2 ft w/ the same angle as a 4 1/2 ft ramp? .
