Baller lkb Posted April 20, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 20, 2018 @lpskier did you get back to skiing yet after your biceps tendon repair? Just wondering how it’s going if so. My surgery was 11 weeks ago. I’m hoping to be skiing by late next month.
Baller_ lpskier Posted April 21, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted April 21, 2018 I started skiing about a month ago. Took a fall. Backed off. Just started again. Feels good except I have to grit my teeth a bit getting up. 28 and 32 only for a while but skied before the buoys at 35 on Monday behind the new Nautique. Members acmx
@lkb I had same surgeries as you in 2012, I was back on the water after 3 months. I used a Goode Power Vest for about three months. Yes, range of motion was the hardest part to regain, but do the rehab religiously and you'll be good. You guys doing any tourneys this year? Baller lkb Posted April 21, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 21, 2018 @acmx good to hear from you. I just started the strengthening phase of rehab this week. It’s pretty sore at times. Unfortunately no tournaments this yr. but if you’re ever in the ‘hood be sure to look me up.
Baller_ lpskier Posted April 21, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted April 21, 2018 @acmx I am. I expect to ski the Cottonwood tournament over Memorial Day, do a drive by at the BOS Cash Prize, the Regional Tune Up, Eastern Regionals and Nationals. I expect to be skiing pretty well by Regionals/ Nationals. Lpskier
Baller eleeski Posted April 23, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 23, 2018 I am such a pansy compared to your real damage. I got shingles a few years ago and my left bicep is still weird. No tear just weakness and poor control. I still whine about it and use it as an excuse if I don't ski well. There are so many excuses that eventually you just need to suck it up and enjoy the ski ride (and claim the performance - whatever it is). The Goode vest helps a lot with slalom. Awesome that you can buy your way around physical limitations. Eric Get the shingles vaccine!
Baller MatadorMaine Posted December 22, 2018 Baller Share Posted December 22, 2018 I’m 44 and live in Maine. Ski 4-5x a week May 15 - late Sept with 2 off seasons FLA trips a year. This constant tendon pain nagged terribly late summer into fall and still today. I could still ski (straight arms focused) but went from being able to do 10 pull-ups (summer) to 3 (fall) because of the pain, and it then it killed after sets. So the painful ski season ends about Oct 10...but I had a Florida trip already booked to ski with my son (Nov 15) ...so was doing weights, rower, burpees, (everything but pull-ups) to TRY to keep fit for Florida. Hurt so bad I finally went to Dr about a week befor FLA. He told me to REST, crush anti inflammatories and that the FLA trip was a bad idea but I should be ok. (I thought 4 weeks of no skiing would fix it). I stayed fit, went to FLA, skied OK, but tendon felt like it was going to explode. Now 4+ weeks later (100% total rest) it still hurts pretty bad. No weights, no rower, no skiing, nothing. Headed to Dr next week for a follow up but already know it’s kinda torn. Wondering what the best PT plan is.(..hoping Dr puts me on right path.) What did your PT involve? Want to be able to compare...and maybe hear some PT success stories.
Baller bkreis Posted December 23, 2018 Baller Share Posted December 23, 2018 @mmadore21 are you fixing it? if so, it's 16 weeks to water time. I'm a medical exercise specialist and have personally been through both arms repaired and know it quite well. dm me or look me up. www.skyfitness.com there's a lot of circumstances that come into play on the preventive surgery side. depending on how close it is to rupture is big factor. Baller_ Rednucleus Posted December 23, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted December 23, 2018 @mmadore21 could you please detail where your pain is - top, bottom, entire arm?? Thanks
Baller DaveD Posted December 24, 2018 Baller Share Posted December 24, 2018 @mmadore21 go get a MRI and make sure you know what's going on with the tendon. I dealt with bicep pain for 2 years on and off thinking it was a muscle issue. Come to find out, it was related to a pinched nerve in my neck. Baller VONMAN Posted December 26, 2018 Baller Share Posted December 26, 2018 I had my left shoulder done in 2003. Torn rotator cuff, torn bicep. Four hour surgery. Six months light duty and PT before I was clear to ski again. Because arm had atrophy it took a full year for a full recovery. No problem after, but had to have the right shoulder done in 2009. Same six months before I could ski and a full year for full recovery. Don't push it, listen to your doctor. Ernie Schlager
Baller MatadorMaine Posted December 27, 2018 Baller Share Posted December 27, 2018 @Rednucleus @bkreis MRI next week. Pain: face left palm up. Take finger and point right where the bicep meets the forearm. Right in that pit where your arm bends....exactly opposite of the elbow. @bkreis I see you on Insta...will DM you there. Yeah, the season is almost here...I have a trip to FLA already scheduled for April. I wanted to go in Feb but that’s not happening now. Full panic mode not knowing what to do. Was told to 100% rest for 4 weeks. Did that and it feels the exact same. Just need a path to recovery. This in between isn’t helping. Weeks slipping away.
