wind forecast app or website ?

can't seem to find a good site that will forecast winds. my iPhone weather app only gives current winds. at least that's all I can find. I would like to know if I can plan on skiing later or is the rest of the day shot.

I think http://www.wundergroud.com has a pretty nice interface... at least the desktop version. I don't use the app.

I use a combination of the Wundergound app and the MyRadar app for weather information. There is also a paid app for RadarScope that shows recent lightning strikes and locations.

I use Windalert for skiing and duck hunting, it has been mostly good except for the few times it lied about when the wind would die and left me in a bad setup hunting.

I've always used the weather.gov/NWS hours forecast and found it to be pretty darn accurate, even as far as 48-72 hours out. The trick is to use the bar graph. Example:

The Forecast is based on the GFS model. Forecasts are available worldwide. The horizontal resolution is about 13 km. Forecasts are computed 4 times a day, at about 5h, 11h, 17h and 23h UTC. Predictions are available in time steps of 3 hours for up to 10 days into the future.

 

The Superforecast for Northern America covers North America with a horizontal resolution of 12 kilometers in hourly timesteps. Forecasts are generated at about 3:30h, 9:30h, 16:30h and 22:30h UTC. The Superforecast for Europe is based on the newest versions of regional weather prediction models. At the moment the Superforecast is available for Europe in a horizontal resolution of 12 kilometers in hourly timesteps. The forecasts are generated four times a day, at about 2h, 8h, 14h and 20h UTC. There is no time delay, all values are presented as they become available from our computers. The Superforecast for Egypt uses a 7km resolution in hourly timesteps. The forecast are updated at about 2h, 8h, 14h and 20h UTC.

Try www.windyty.com...shows wind direction transposed over a google-type map, so you can tell/ predict what effect the wind will have....
