Baller Glock Posted July 30, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2016 My 2012 txi with 5.7 monsoon seems to be having a small issue. WIth a relatively cold engine in the first run up of the day, as I apply throttle, the engine sputters a bit. Never happens again, just that first run up. Any ideas what it could be? Sprazzle
Not real familiar with marine engines but they all go suck, squish, bang, blow. So my first question, is there a check engine light? no is possible and there could still be a trouble code on the ecm without a light, maybe a cylinder misfire. First check would be spark in all cylinders. New Plugs might be the cheap fix. Now days im guessing each cylinder has its own coil pack which would result in a much more obvious problem like a significant lack of power if one were to fail. Alternately, sounds like a possible failing oxygen sensor thats not happy until it reaches optimal running temp. Doubtful to cause any damage when it does fail, just an inconvenience to a day of skiing. Just some thoughts from an old car nerd.
Baller Chef23 Posted July 30, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2016 I have a 2002 Monsoon that tends t stall when I first back it away from the dock each morning then it is fine. I just don't worry about it because it runs fine after that.
Baller Glock Posted July 30, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted July 30, 2016 I put new spark plugs in, problem still exists. I'm not too worried since it only happens once and goes away after the first run up.
Baller DmaxJC_ski Posted July 30, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2016 Sounds like maybe a sticky injector. Probably loosens up after a run and some heat.
Baller dvskier Posted July 30, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2016 Try a can of sea foam. It's magic!
Baller Wayne Posted July 30, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2016 @Glock do you continuously use any fuel stabilizer? I had a similar issue and actually traced it down to using the Sta-bil ethanol treatment stuff. Stopped using stabilizer all together and the problem is gone. Baller Glock Posted July 30, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted July 30, 2016 I do not use stabilizer except during winter storage. Will the sea foam loosen up a sticky injector?
Baller DmaxJC_ski Posted July 30, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2016 Any good injector cleaner is worth a shot. It's a good place to start.
Baller dvskier Posted July 31, 2016 Baller Share Posted July 31, 2016 @Glock I use Sea Foam twice per year and have never experienced any fuel issues. Also only use 90 octane non ethanol fuel.
