formulaben
Hi, hoping the knowledge base here will edjumacate me on the concave area above the propeller on an old(er) Tige I saw recently. Any info/history on this feature is much appreciated.
Baller BraceMaker Posted August 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 18, 2016 From a marine design standpoint the prop pocket let's a prop be closer to the bottom of the hull. Makes draft shallower and decreases angle on the shaft/engine. I suspect ski boats first got them when gear reduction trans began to get popular and 14" props were installed. Baller Edbrazil Posted August 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 18, 2016 Think that it was when the MasterCraft Powerslot came out. Either late 1970's or early 1980's. I remember there was one at the Marine World tournament, brought by the LaPoints. Who were very secretive about it, especially when it was out of water. The stern was covered up by a towel or similar. The boat may also have had a geared drive, instead of the straight through 1 to 1.
Baller thompjs Posted August 19, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 19, 2016 Some 1980 models had the 1.5 to 1 trans wth big prop as I remember. I think the reduced the prop diameter in 1981. I had an 81 and it was a great boat for the time.
