Administrators Horton Posted September 14, 2016 Administrators Posted September 14, 2016 With the ski year ending soon for most folks not in Florida - the question is just how many sets do you think you get Jan to Dec? Administrators Horton Posted September 14, 2016 Author Administrators Posted September 14, 2016 I selected 200 + but that assumes I do a lot of skiing in the next 6 to 8 weeks. Baller ALPJr Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 I had set # 20 on Sunday. I'm a little behind this year, normally at 30 ish by Labor Day, and finish up the year with about 35 to 40.
Baller Deanoski Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 lots of mid day sets for me!! then back to work still 6-8 weeks to go!
Baller_ MISkier Posted September 14, 2016 Baller_ Posted September 14, 2016 @Horton, I'm not sure why you wouldn't be skiing beyond 8 weeks. You don't freeze over, do you? The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller wtrskior Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 I get about 70 in a year total. Our season is about 4.5 months on average with 1 month of that cold. I also get down to Florida usually twice in the fall. I'd love to start skiing in march and end in November it takes me at least 4-6 weels every spring to get reasonably comfortable. This year it wasnt until August. .. I need the time off in the winter to recoup and do other things
Administrators Horton Posted September 14, 2016 Author Administrators Posted September 14, 2016 @MISkier November to March I'll probably only ski about four rides a month. It's a good time of year to find out what my wife and baby look like and go to the gym. Baller h2onhk Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 5-20ish. portable course on a river that fluctuates water level, current, and debris pending weather.
Baller MillerTime38 Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 A little behind schedule this year due to a late start but I should be able to make up for lost time over the next couple months now that I am in FL.
Shakeski Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 @Horton Question: Is a ride a set? For example if I take three sets in one day - is that 3 rides?
Administrators Horton Posted September 14, 2016 Author Administrators Posted September 14, 2016 @Shakeski yes. ride = set Goode ★ KD Skis ★ MasterCraft ★ PerfSki ★ Radar ★ Reflex ★ S Lines ★ Stokes ★ Baller Video Coaching System ★ Wake Lending Become a Supporting Member or make a One-time Donation
Baller brettmainer Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 If I lived on a lake, didn't have a job and the kids didn't play all of the team sports that they do.... Maybe one day I will get back to skiing as much as I'd like to. If that time comes, I hope the body will still be willing.
Gold Member Than_Bogan Posted September 14, 2016 Gold Member Posted September 14, 2016 I think I might occasionally manage over 150, but most years 100-150.
Baller Kelvin Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 Normal season is Mid March to Mid November (about 35 weeks) with about 5 sets per week average. For as much skiing as I get to do, I should be a lot better skier.
Baller BrennanKMN Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 I am pretty happy with the number of sets I got this year knowing that I rarely have access to a boat on a lift closer than 15 min. Majority of my sets consist of 20+ min of trailering one way to the lake. Gets to be a long week when you do that 5+ times in one week. Lot of fuel in the truck too...
Baller RazorRoss3 Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 @Kelvin, I think you're problem is those 17 weeks you're taking off between November and March. Gotta get the full 365 going!
Baller 6balls Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 I pretty much doubled any other season this year despite missing a few weeks with an injury. Ski partner availability is everything and this year worked out great.
Baller Mateo_Vargas Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 If I ski 1 set per week during the winter it puts me a little over 100/yr.
Baller Orlando76 Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 In reality I bet I average 2-2.5 times a week but since a ride=set I get 2-3 sets per trip. My average would go way up if we didn't get blown out March and April.
Baller ScottScott Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 Shouldn't I be better by now? I really just started about 4 years ago, and just skiing this much the last 2 years. But still.....
Porkfight Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 I could almost run around the course on foot this year thanks to rain becoming extinct, so right around zero sets in a slalom course. Probably 20-30 freeskiing sessions, though.
Baller jimbrake Posted September 14, 2016 Baller Posted September 14, 2016 Pretty close to, 100 but probably just under. I shut it down from mid- or late-October to around April 1. I need a mental break from thinking about how to manage the application and duration of load on my pull out for the gate and where my left elbow is as the ski releases through the edge change out to 1 ball for a few months. Instead I start thinking about when to release my downhill ski for an early edge set before the fall line on my new outside ski and whether to make an up move or a skis under move as my mass moves downhill at the start of the turn, my stance width, edge angle, how much to counter, how much not to counter, driving my outside hand through the turn, looking ahead, tactics, turn shape, where's the delay?, carry speed onto the flats, blah, blah, blah.
Baller foxriverat Posted September 15, 2016 Baller Posted September 15, 2016 Ski from May to October. Would go a lot more if I could find a regular partner early afternoons during the week. But not too many people that ski work nights like me. Have a semi retired friend who doesn't ski anymore and will pull me once in a while. Have a regular group on weekends.
Baller DmaxJC_ski Posted September 15, 2016 Baller Posted September 15, 2016 Skied 4 times this summer. Weather simply did not cooperate, along with the recession, just a below average summer at best. But next year is already lookin up!!
Baller LeonL Posted September 15, 2016 Baller Posted September 15, 2016 Our season is about April through mid October. I'm at 81 right now.
Baller Texas6 Posted September 15, 2016 Baller Posted September 15, 2016 @Kelvin, I feel the same way, but I try to remind myself that an average set of 6-8 passes, 5 days a week, is only 8-10 minutes of actual practice. This makes me feel better temporarily
Baller Marco Posted September 15, 2016 Baller Posted September 15, 2016 This year injuries have kept me off the water quite a bit, so I only skied about half of my usual amount. This year I'll end at around 80 sets, where usually I'm at 150 plus. 80 sets is pretty weak for living right in front of 2 ball.
Baller gsm_peter Posted September 15, 2016 Baller Posted September 15, 2016 The ice went away early April so we skied the week after. Weekdays skiing ends in late September due to lack of daylight. Weekends ends in early November due to boat can freeze during nights. Poor daylight is also an issue. Bad wind and lack of ski buddies take away quite a few days also. I hope to end up with approximately 85 slalom and 25 trick runs. And yes, I have same problems that my training does not pay off.... I think that we are lucky in Sweden. There are plus 10 clubs within 2h drive from my home in Stockholm. I guess 2000 usd could pay 1 year full membership in all of them. It could be fun to visit all in a week. Any ballers that would be interested. =0) ? (Most clubs that I know of offer cheap guest runs)
Baller_ lpskier Posted September 16, 2016 Baller_ Posted September 16, 2016 My season may end soon if the traffic jam on 77 outside of Charlotte doesn't start to move soon. On my way to the Little Mountain Pro Am. Lpskier
Baller hemlock Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Posted September 16, 2016 I'm jealous of all of you. To put it in perspective, I've owned a 2003 Malibu Sunsetter lxi since new, and I finished this season with 410 hours on the boat. :)
Baller ironhorse Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Posted September 16, 2016 I have 33 but hoping for a few more before the snow flies.
Baller bigskieridaho Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Posted September 16, 2016 Usually ski 2-3 times a week, 2 sets each time April-Oct.
Baller andjules Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Posted September 16, 2016 Sadly, 1-50 seems like a huge range to me. I'll be lucky if I get 25 sets this year.
Baller 6balls Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Posted September 16, 2016 One thing I learned this year having a lot more sets...is that it didn't necessarily make me better I fight the same demons. For years I though wow, I don't get much water time if i did I'm sure I'd be as good as "that guy"...whoever that guy is (there's plenty of 'em) that's better than me but gets a lot of water time. Sure did have fun on the water with the increased sets this year, though. Fun, stress relief, great exercise and I just love being in and/or behind a boat.
Baller DaveD Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Posted September 16, 2016 @6balls After years and years of blaming my poor skiing on lack of time on the water, I finally made the commitment to get that added water time last year. After not improving last year, I decided to spend this year concentrating on correcting all those bad habits. It's helped drastically. I stopped worrying about shortening the rope and started worrying about the way I ski. I'm still inconsistent but drastically better than I've ever been.
