Baller rawly Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2016 A friend of mine is searching for a late model 196. I recomended one with the 6 L engine to him. Don't know too much about them , but people seem to love em. Any down sides to this option ? I've heard better power , better fuel consumption , and closed cooling doesn't require winterizing . What about the wake ? Any difference ? Will not be used for jumping. Thanks
Baller dvskier Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2016 I have a 2004 with the Excailbur 330. Plenty of power and doesn't use as much fuel as my previous GT 40. Hole shot is great with a Acme 422.
Baller ozski Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2016 I have the 6.0 196 and cant say enough good things about it, its still a world class boat in every respect.
Baller 6balls Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2016 6.0 not necessary in the 196 by any means. Smaller boat than today's big hulls. I would like a 196 6.0, too, but if the right 196 with a 5.7 and ZO showed up at the right price wouldn't hold out for a 6.0.
Baller 6balls Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2016 @OB1 that's a sharp ride. The current Txi is the first Malibu I personally would own. There is really nothing I don't like about how it drives and skis. The Bu's prior to this all had some things that were not right for me and would bug me if it was my boat...not that I wouldn't drive or ski them just more likely that a buddy would own 'em. Your 6.0 Nautique is pretty cool!

Baller dave2ball Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2016 You don't need a 6.0 in the 196.
Baller Razorskier1 Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2016 all these comments about not "needing" more displacement. It isn't always about need, some of us just follow the old adage of my friend Mark Overbye -- you can never have enough love, money, or horsepower! Baller_ Wish Posted September 16, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted September 16, 2016 @OB1 is correct. That 6L 196 is the best boat that has been on our lake. From 196 5.7s to 200s to Bu's ..hands down that 6L was the bomb. And it never seemed to run out of gas anywhere near as quick. If I could afford it, I'd buy it. Baller Ali Posted September 16, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2016 I have driven and skied a lot behind this boat this year and it is great
Baller ozski Posted September 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 17, 2016 @OB1 The TXi is nice but letting go of a good 196 won't be as easy as you think :) They don't make them anymore...
Baller ozski Posted September 17, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 17, 2016 @OB1 I let that one fly through when I saw it but FYI a 200 5.3 price up over $110k in this part of the world. The days of the 80k used 200 are already a reality for us.
