Baller bigskieridaho Posted May 6, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 Took my new V-Type out and Didn't go so well.... New boat, new ski, new bindings so a lot to figure out. One thing it is fast! Went from a Senate so obviously a difference. Felt pretty far in the backseat and tip high. Set the bindings at factory settings, but nothing with the fin yet. I am sure I will figure it out due it being the first time out, but open to some suggestions.
Baller Ilivetoski Posted May 6, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 Is it a regular V-Type or a R or X? Have you checked to make sure the fin is actually at factory? Just because the ski came from the factory doesn't necessarily mean the fin is at factory.
Baller bigskieridaho Posted May 6, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 Regular V-Type. No, still have yet to touch the fin since it was the first day out.
Baller Chef23 Posted May 6, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 It is going to take a while to get used to new bindings and a new ski. Don't panic.
Baller Ilivetoski Posted May 6, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 I would say take a few sets before you start worrying, that is a lot of change
Baller Luzz Posted May 6, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 @bigskieridaho Obviously, it sounds like a lot of change :) Weight and ski size? 34mph? Baller MNshortliner Posted May 6, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 I moved the bindings one hole forward after one set. It took me 10 or so rides to start to feel how that ski works.
Baller RazorRoss3 Posted May 6, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 I personally think changing bindings can be just as big of a jump as changing skis. How your foot is connected to the ski has a huge impact on how quickly and how aggressively the ski reacts to your movements on top of it. Add that to a new ski where you already aren't sure how it will behave under your feet and it could just take a few sets to feel settled in. Baller Luzz Posted May 6, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 (forget my first comment, I thought you were on VTR) @bigskieridaho I am pretty much 185lbs and on the 67" (36mph) I loved the following: 29 5/8 6.905 2.485 .730 8 As a first step tho, I agree with @MNshortliner, try going 29 3/4 and if it is too much, maybe 5/8 Ski coach at Jolly Ski, Organizer of the San Gervasio Pro Am (2023 Promo and others), Co-Organizer of the Jolly Clinics. Baller bigskieridaho Posted May 6, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted May 6, 2017 Thanks guys. I will try both @Luzz and @MNshortliner suggestions next time I am out. Seems like boots would be the place to start.
Jweber
@bigskieridaho Here are the numbers that worked great for me. These were on my 66. Look at the HO recommendations, I think my binding distance was stock so I would try these fin #'s with your stock binding position first. My ski was super fin depth sensitive, if it got any deeper it wouldn't finish the turn well. Also ask Dave Bashista how these #'s worked for him, I gave these to him last year. 29 6.875 2.490 0.
Baller bigskieridaho Posted May 8, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted May 8, 2017 @Jweber He was out there that day and said he had some numbers that were given to him. I will definitely try them. See ya this summer!
Baller skinut Posted May 8, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 8, 2017 I skied the VTX this weekend. It was only one set and I was tired so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. I am currently riding a Goode Rev6. I was skiing at 22 and 28 off 34 mph. My tourney PB is 4 @ 35. I've only been on the water three times this season. Coming from the Rev6 I didn't see a huge change in the way the ski behaved. I was comfortable after the first pass. The biggest challenge I had was getting the ski to finish the turn. My guess is that with a few more sets I would be able to adjust and make the ski work a little better for me. While I wasn't blown away I would also say that I wasn't disappointed. I have ridden the VTR from a few years ago. I was not a fan of that ski. The VTX seems like it had some potential.

Baller bigskieridaho Posted May 12, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted May 12, 2017 Well checked my ski settings again. Guess measure twice and screw once. I was two holes off for some reason back. Fin is pretty in line with @Jweber settings. Guess when the weather shapes up I will go take her for another rip!
