Baller skiermanbrad Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 If you're not aware of the Beer Mile, check out the many videos on YouTube. The concept is: Chug a beer, run a lap, x4. Try to get the lowest ET. I'm thInking BEER SLALOM. Chug a beer, ski a pass; chug a beer, ski a pass; etc. until you fail. Try to get the highest buoy count with a beer between each pass. This is genius, right? Designated driver, of course (for the boat, and to drive skiers home).
Baller Bill22 Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 Before you start drinking make sure your head won't fit through your handle. Not trying to be a buzz kill but it's something to check.
Baller skiermanbrad Posted July 24, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 Maybe a cross bar or some other head-exclusion device required for participation. This is why I ran this idea by you guys. I'm thinking the alcohol wouldn't take effect until the skier's most difficult pass, which ought to be quite entertaining for the spectators. Baller OldGuysRule Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 Learned my lesson years ago. Mix one fast boat, one slalom ski, and several beers = broken ear drum!
Baller ToddL Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 I love an adult beverage just like most everyone else at our lakes, but the tournament rules and scene has pretty much spread into a general lake guideline: keep 'em in the coolers until the skiin' is done. In fact this unwritten private lake culture is so pervasive that I am often caught off guard when public lake goers arrive with coolers full expecting to drink in between rides. Your idea sounds like fun but may not be met with the expected enthusiasm because of the above culture. As always, we want every skier to have fun and stay safe. Baller 6balls Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 Sounds like serious trouble...the velocity, force and risk of skiing buoys is enough without making a drinking game of it.
Baller skiermanbrad Posted July 24, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 Obviously, this is a funny idea and not a serious one. So, without consequences for your actions; would you try to start near your most difficult pass to limit the effect of the beer, or would you choose a longer line length and get more alcohol effect? Baller bigskieridaho Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 I love beer. 1 beer may be ok, but anything after that is not a good idea unfortunately. Beer is for after the fun of skiing. I have friends that wanna drink beer when we snow ski and I can't function when I do that. That's what apres ski means:)
Baller skiermanbrad Posted July 24, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 I may have been inspired by @Horton's Instagram post from the other day, which said, "That's a horrible idea, What time?"
Members brettmainer
Even one beer and it is unsafe to slalom at max speed. Trick slalom though....
Baller Hockdog Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 Minimum 3 beers for jump ski slalom.
Baller MattP Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 BallOfSpray does not condone or support the use of alcohol before skiing. Safety is of the most importance while participating in towed water sports.
Baller BCM Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 I have won a few Beer Miles with a PB of 7 min 45 sec. I can tell you that you are feeling the effects slightly at the end of the mile and within about 15 minutes you are way drunker than one might expect for 4 beers. You also spend the entire mile and at least a few minutes after trying to keep everything down, this is the hardest part. The last Beer Mile I ran a friend who is super fit and can put down some beverages came to me within a minute or so of finishing and said "I feel pretty good, minus the fluid sloshing in my gut". About fifteen minutes later he came back and said "I'm hammered". I would happily run another beer mile, I will not drink and ski, not even one. Baller skihacker Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 I can't operate a slalom ski beyond 1 beer, timing just completely shot.
Baller skidawg Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 It has been done before,,,, dubbed the Shiner Bock Big Easy tourney! quite entertaining
Baller DaveD Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 Not sure I would want to ski if the previous skier hurled in the middle of the lake on his last pass.
Baller ForrestGump Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 Sounds fun. Way more fun than running the beer mile. I found that although I truly love beer, drinking four and running 1/4 mile between them was NOT my idea of fun. And we did it in less than 9 minutes. Baller skidawg Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 Less than nine minutes. That's way off the world record for a beer mile
Baller ForrestGump Posted July 24, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 24, 2017 You've never seen me run. My running ability was holding me back.
Baller Murrski Posted July 25, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 25, 2017 If you put that tournament together in the 90's - don't invite Chico State... their drinking team had a skiing problem and they were damn good in both events
Baller ToddL Posted July 26, 2017 Baller Share Posted July 26, 2017 @BoneHead must have a google alert set with key words of "BallofSpray" and "Beer".
