At one point my son was wearing one I bought from Dick's. I don't think anything you buy in a retail store is medically supportive (if that is a term) but my son felt like it gave him a little bit of support and he felt better wearing it.

We use McDavid Level 3 Dual-Disk Knee Brace. $55 each at Academy sports. They were recommended to us by several high level coaches and offer a reasonable level of protection for lateral knee motion.

Good for piece of mind and injury protection, but nothing is 100%

If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding

What @Mark_Matis said, DonJoy. I don't jump, but after ACL surgery, I used the DonJoy Defiance III most of my first summer slalom skiing after surgery, and it was very supportive (and, provided some piece of mind). And, I hardly knew I was wearing it except for occasional bang on the other knee.

You can get them on-line, and either custom fit, or standard sizes. It held up very well with frequent water use, except for occasionally having to reinstall/reposition the condyle pads held on by Velcro. These are not inexpensive. So, if limited support is needed, look at what @Bruce_Butterfield mentioned. If more support is needed, strongly consider DonJoy. Most college football players wanting or needing knee braces use DonJoy.

In fact, knee braceis an excellent solution for those who would like to protect themselves during active jumping activities from theoretical injury. Anyone who has ever suffered a knee injury can tell you with great confidence that he definitely does not want a repeat of this situation. That is why it is so important to have high-quality knee protection under load. But you need to understand that knee brace come in very different types, so you definitely need to consult with a specialist so as not to make it worse for yourself.

I've used a CTI2 custom brace for 25+ years now, still works perfectly (just had to replace the pads and straps when they wore out). I used it mainly for wakeboarding back in the days of sillyness. I got it for lateral stabilisation, patella location and impact transmission, so pretty much everything you'd need for jump I'd think. It was assessed and fitted for CTI by a specialist consultant.

edit, just notices its a thread revival from 2017! still stands though

From Dr. Moe!

Knee brace is a custom fitted by professional medical trained personnel.

A knee support is what you buy at the sporting good store.

Sporting good store athletic knee supports are beneficial across the board for any junior jumper.

However if there already is a known knee problem it is best to have a brace custom fitted.
