Motor Box Insulating Foam disintegrating

Old thread I know, but my patch job on our 2016 CarbonPro didn’t hold up this season. Just winterized the boat and I’m looking to get the “doghouse” back in shape. I bought a kit last year from discount inboard marine and it really didn’t last (probably installation error…). Is there a secret to the surface prep that I missed?

I removed the foam under my box this summer. There was no noticeable change in noise. So I left the inside of the box clean and bare.

Keep in mind that most (all?) engine boxes today have thicker and denser foam under the vinyl on the outside of the box.

If I felt I had to do something, I would use the type of carpet my 2007 Malibu RLxi had from the factory. Light density foam is never going to hold up. Don't waste your time installing that.
