Graduating this spring and will be making the trek south from MI to the Fort Payne, AL area to start a full-time job. Looking for any recommendations, whether it be public or private lakes, to get some access to a course. Skied 4 years in college and you can sure bet I won’t be letting it go that easily! Thanks for any tips in advance!

@spartanskier10 beautiful area of the state around Ft. Payne! Great hiking trails at the state park there. You want to hook up with @chris_logan. There was a guy working on a ski lake in that area, don't know if it panned out or not. You can catch a ride with us near Birmingham if you get down this way.

Shoulder surgery 11 weeks ago and finger surgery next week...at least i haven’t missed many ski days this yr since the weather has been so crappy

There is a great site just outside of Fort Payne, going on our third year of skiing there. Set ups are a little tight, we are considering changing to an 8-ball course. Heard through the grapevine you will be working at my OpCo. When do you expect to get to FP?

I'm bumping this post...Did a quick search just to see if there was any Alabama talk of any sort on this board. @spartanskier10 How do you like Alabama? I graduated HS in Michigan, many years ago...and left to go to school in Tuscaloosa. Nearly 25 years later, I'm still here. Live in the Bham area, and boat/ski on Lake Martin.

@"76S&S" even though my boat is at the marina on Lake Martin (1hr 10 min drive) my ski and jacket are in my garage. I'm available...and I can drive. Also, I have access to a course where I am. Maybe a Friday evening set?

@booze Yes, I've been out to LL, but only as a spectator, I've never had the opportunity to ski there. I'll watch out for you on LT, we are on the north end of the lake at Carmel Bay. Currently in a yellow MC 205v, yes with a tower. @Timr71 I just picked up a portable course, it needs a little work, but will be able to drop it in LT in a few weeks.

@Timr71 @"76S&S" we ski at Lay Lake, slalom course there and also one available on Logan Martin Lake. We, my daughter, son in law, grandson, and I, ski one or two afternoons a week and free weekends. We ski and officiate at many tournaments around the Southern Region, including LLUSA. Always glad to have fellow ballers join us for a set!

Hi Mike, I think I might have sent you a facebook friend request. I was skiing a set with my cousin last fall on Lake Martin when I met and learned that we were skiing in Don Kelly's course. I'm sure you know him. My boat is in the dry stack at River North and Doug Hamrick is the manager there, but I've never had the chance to ski with those guys. I'm old (46) and haven't ever had much access to a course, so I'm not a guy who can get through it yet, but I like to try. I really need to ski a lot more, but life just gets in the way, kids with activities like band and baseball. I'll keep hacking away at it though. When I go to the lake with my family, I hardly ever ski...the water is choppy, and I'm pretty much driving the whole time. If/when I could get out with some skiers it would be a different story though. Like I said, have ski and vest, will meet up for ski opportunities. I've seen the course on the very southern end of Logan Martin. That's not far from my house...we live in the Meadowbrook/Inverness area of town off of 280. And I have a friend (former coworker) who's a skier with a house on Logan Martin, but we haven't met up yet. Do you know Igor? I met him too...he lives in my neighborhood but we haven't had a chance to meet up and go ski since the first time I met him. He looks like a good skier..maybe with a bit of reach advantage due to his 7 foot height. So far everyone I've met in the ski community here has been super nice and welcoming. That's why I guess I wouldn't be afraid to meet up with some strangers to go skiing.

@Timr71 I'm older! We can get you through the course. Yes, I know all those guys and Igor definitely has a reach advantage! Ran into him at the Alabama State Championships and hope to have him and his daughter come ski with us soon. I live farther out on 280, closer to the lake!
