How is someone "the best"?

Being the best to me also involves longevity- look at the number of Masters victories Andy had- it's hard to believe anyone will surpass it. When I was a kid, and skiing still got some coverage, Liz Allan and Chuck Stearns were sweeping all the events at the Nationals and Masters- I'd consider 3-event versatility part of it, too. Having voted for "current world record holder", I have to qualify that by recognizing that there have been some record holders who held it a very short time and they don't qualify as "GOAT" contenders.

If by IWWF you mean Elite Ranking, which is what we have as of now to judge who wins the most at cash-prize events… then yes. If not, still Pro Rankings. If we introduce a ELO (or "who beats who") ranking system (IWWF has been working on one), then that would be a solid candidate too…

I am not sure any of those exactly fit but given the current state of things current world record holder would fit. There could certainly be a situation where a very, very good skier breaks the world record but isn’t consistently the best in the world.

That question leaves lots up to "context".

Do you mean best right now?

Do you mean best ever?

Do you mean the best at their prime?

Do you mean best this season?

I look at slalom like golf.

Who is the best right now? - Justin Thomas

Who is the best ever? - Jack Nicklaus

Who is the best at their prime? - Tiger Woods

Who is the best this season? - Dustin Johnson

So, who fits those questions in slalom?
