Baller bigskieridaho Posted August 31, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 31, 2018 I am in Aviation sales now, but what does a person have to do to get into the Boat or Watersports industry? I know we all probably think about it, but really would be a dream job! Just thought I would throw it out there when I pretty much eat, sleep, dream about and look at everything that has to do with boats or skiing. Ha! Baller Kelvin Posted August 31, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 31, 2018 Not to bust your bubble, but be careful what you wish for. I've known several young up and coming skiers that have gone into the boating industry. For many of them, their skiing and tournament participation severely decreased. Baller MichaelGoodman Posted August 31, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 31, 2018 When the good boating weather is here you will not be boating instead you will be dealing with other boaters problems on their boats.
Baller Spuddy Posted August 31, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 31, 2018 I agree with the above statement, I went into post secondary education thinking that is exactly what I wanted to do, but after working one summer I thought no way! You are just helping other people enjoy time on the water and spending much less of your time doing it. Best thing is to find something that allows you the flexibility to spend time out on the water and of course the income to do so!

Baller bigskieridaho Posted August 31, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 31, 2018 Ha, not looking to work in a shop. Basically marketing, sales, promotions etc. even if it was a side gig I’d be fine with that.
Baller Spuddy Posted August 31, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 31, 2018 Even sales and marking you’re going to be dealing with issues with people want to use there boats.
Baller BlueSki Posted August 31, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 31, 2018 Run a snowmobile rental business, that definitely would provide time for water skiing.

Baller bigskieridaho Posted August 31, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 31, 2018 @MS Very true I didn’t say that. It would be great just to be involved however would like to at least have some perks at least or make it a part time money thing if any. Full time would obviously need pay..... Baller jepski Posted September 4, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 4, 2018 I turned my former passion (cycling) into my profession for almost 15 years. It could be best described as "Snack or Famine", as in just enough to get by - or no money. And as others have said you are working while others are playing. And I haven't even touched up the aspects of it being an industry that is seasonal, or weather dependent.

Baller dnewton Posted September 20, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 20, 2018 Does anyone else ever consider selling their whole life and going to work for a ski school and becoming a full time ski bum? That seems rather appealing quite often.
Administrators Horton Posted September 20, 2018 Administrators Share Posted September 20, 2018 @dnewton have you ever spent 8 to 10 hours a day in the boat 5 to 7 days a week? It's not as glamorous as it sounds. Baller swc5150 Posted September 21, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 21, 2018 @Horton that can be said for any profession I think. I spend 8 hours a day on a tour bus quite often, which isn't glamorous, but making a living playing music is totally worth it:) My advice to anyone for any profession...go after it with the utmost persistence. Baller bigskieridaho Posted September 21, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted September 21, 2018 Think I will just stick with what I am doing, and work from home, and go skiing when I want..... not bad I guess.
