sixball Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 2003 350 Excalibur blowing the J hose way to often. Any ideas, or others seeing this.
sixball Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 The other side. Near the bottom bend. Its my ski bud's boat so I can't look at it now. I think it is from the motor water pump to the thermostat. near the fuel pump.
sixball Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 Love skiing the boat. But it does not look good on the short rope behind my R lxi.
Baller_ MISkier Posted June 22, 2019 Baller_ Posted June 22, 2019 Has this boat ever had an impeller failure? If so, it's possible that bits of the impeller blades are wedged into the engine cooling system causing excessive pressure on that hose. Remove that hose and clean out any debris. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller oldjeep Posted June 22, 2019 Baller Posted June 22, 2019 By blowing you mean splitting, or it is coming off at one end?
Baller Jordan Posted June 22, 2019 Baller Posted June 22, 2019 There must be some kind of blockage. The cooling system is low pressure normally
Baller_ MISkier Posted June 22, 2019 Baller_ Posted June 22, 2019 Another possibility is if the boat has been run a lot in muddy or silt-laden water. That will harden like concrete when the engine cools, if it hasn’t been flushed with clean water after use. This will restrict flow, increase pressure, and eventually heat up a cylinder (or worse). If that’s the case, there is probably an engine rebuild in the very near future. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
WaterSkier12 Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 Agree, check impeller, I’ll bet it’s ground down to nothing and just spinning. You’ll find rubber tines everywhere. What’s the water temp reading? Good luck
Baller One_Ski Posted June 25, 2019 Baller Posted June 25, 2019 I had a similar problem. I'd suggest you pull the thermostat, and see if pieces of the impeller are blocking water flow there. That fixed my problem.
Baller Jordan Posted June 25, 2019 Baller Posted June 25, 2019 If the impeller isn't providing water, there wouldn't be any pressure created. There would be nothing to blow out that J hose.
Baller_ MISkier Posted June 25, 2019 Baller_ Posted June 25, 2019 @Jordan, hot water (especially overheating) can cause pressure. The impeller and raw water pump provide circulation, not pressure. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller BraceMaker Posted June 25, 2019 Baller Posted June 25, 2019 @MISkier - the raw water pump impeller will provide pressure, the circulation pump does not. A Johnson style pump is rated to about 36 psi, if output is restricted that will bring.it up. Consider pressure caps on radiators release at 6 to 20 psi these pumps are capable of blowing up components. First check for even flow out both exhausts then work back and find the restriction.
Baller Andre Posted June 25, 2019 Baller Posted June 25, 2019 I remember that in those same years MC and Malibu were blowing J hoses but that was Indmar.Don't know if PCM were using the same J hose... Were your replacement J hoses date stamp ? Sidenote. It happened to my ski partner Malibu 07 V-Ride (also own a 196 for skiing).New to boating and thinking he was sinking with water on the floor ,he rushed to my other ski partner empty boatlift to save his boat. Forgot about his tower and the boatlift canopy...and wrecked the canopy frame! My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!
sixball Posted June 26, 2019 Author Posted June 26, 2019 Update... So my bud just got a original PCM hose and it is significantly better then the hoses he has been using! Maybe boats are not a place to save money. I think it was just how quick he could get a replacement.
Baller_ MISkier Posted June 26, 2019 Baller_ Posted June 26, 2019 I would still do a thorough check of the impeller, cooling system, and flow through the engine. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
sixball Posted June 26, 2019 Author Posted June 26, 2019 I will try to make time. I am lucky to make time for some sets this season. This is a wild summer for me. I do agree!
