Tbub
After many smashed fingers and knuckles it is time to install a new shock on my 2004 SN. It seems like I replaced it years ago but the problem still exists. I have tried local auto parts stores with no luck. Where can I find the most powerful shock absorber? My boat has been flawless all these years except when it comes to the design of not only the glove box but the motor box as well. Those shocks broke years ago. The mounts ripped from the fiberglass and bent on the carpeted clamshell. Now the motor box hinge broke. Great engineered boat except for that. So... looking for the glove box shock and any ideas how to fix the motor box issue. Thanks to all.
Baller robmollysilverlake Posted May 28, 2020 Baller Share Posted May 28, 2020 I just got one for my 2002 SN from Miami Nautique The glove box still comes down hard at the end when closing, but it does go up and stay up easily.
Baller Hallpass Posted May 28, 2020 Baller Share Posted May 28, 2020 I buy mine at the Auto parts store, or find them online. Usually I double the rating of gas shock vs. the OEM installation.
Baller eyepeeler Posted May 28, 2020 Baller Share Posted May 28, 2020 You can also find new ones on ebay. They don't last forever. When they wear out, put a new one on right away.
mikegile
I agree with @Hallpass on increasing the rating. I recently replaced passenger seat shocks as I thought mine were done and the seat still doesn't stay up.
Baller fu_man Posted May 28, 2020 Baller Share Posted May 28, 2020 Moomba uses a spring. Coiled spring holds lid up. Deflect spring to close. Simpler and better design. They last forever.
Baller Hallpass Posted May 28, 2020 Baller Share Posted May 28, 2020 BTW, they are Attwood gas shocks. Once you find the model you want, easy enough to price them on the internet. Tons of suppliers.
Baller keithh2oskier Posted May 28, 2020 Baller Share Posted May 28, 2020 @Tbub I have a 02 196 and had the same issue with my glovebox. I ordered a set on ebay (only need 1). Its a 7.5# and I recall the original being like 4#. This is harder to close which is nice since it won't fall down even if you're driving. I replaced mine a few years ago and just have the spare in the glovebox for when I need it eventually or someone else does. https://www.ebay.com/itm/372973602949

Baller Andre Posted May 29, 2020 Baller Share Posted May 29, 2020 @Tbub What and where did you end up ordering? Partner got the same boat as you and glove box is a finger eater... My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!

Tbub
Thanks to all. New glove box shocks work great. Now, what length and and strength should I get for the observers seat? Thanks again.
Baller Edmund Posted June 11, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 11, 2020 Just ordered some glove box shocks myself. Thanks for the ebay link. Hopefully these stronger shocks will last a lot longer than did the previous ones.
