Creaky rope

2 boats, 2 separate ropes, same make and model, both squeak at the pylon at different loops. Shock tube not a factor.

Slightly annoying in the boat, fully unnerving when feeling it in the handle.

Remedies?

Yes. make a smoothly spinning collar to turn a std pylon into a swiveling one. Basically a bushing....

Smartly cut a strip of polyethylene (plain milk jug) so it wraps around the pylon 1.5 times, and round its corners. Now loosely wrap it around the pylon and secure with a couple wraps of electrical tape. A spritz of dry graphite lube under it is just insurance, but not really critical.

 

This keeps your favorite loops from wearing out.

 

It could also be your technique of securing the rope. A slip knot will cinch and not like to spin. The newer premium ropes with a length indicating collar, just slip the sections apart, go over the pylon, then slide the collar forward to take up some of the slack.
