Start dock, best surface?

We have used carpet for years but it can get filthy over time. Also holds dirt and disguises screws or staples holding it down.

 

We are now using go a rubber Matt but it gets hot snd marks light colored shorts. I like how the dirt/sand washes through and it keeps the ski away from any dock screws.

 

What do you think is best and why? Of course it needs to protect skis, be functional and hopefully last.

We like the imitation "deck a dance" material. It stays put without any fasteners and it lets dirt and water fall thru to the dock easy to hose or broom off.

Small start areas with large areas to sit with out a wet butt. You want to protect skis and let people dunk their boots and wash their feet but also you want people on deck to be able to sit down and not be soaking wet.

Put an actual boat ski platform at water level like it would be on the back of a boat mounted to the dock. They have that set up at skiwatch it is sweet.

@6balls I have seen the platform set up at a few locales it's pretty sweet.

What if you put your ski on at the edge of the mat then sit down onto the dock. Or just jump in backwards and not sit down at all?

Or like the good old days when we were hacks, We resize the front adjustable binding, if you could call it a binding at all, I jump in the water and someone throws me the ski to put on.

@bishop8950 I got some stuff from this place to use similar to deckadence for some flooring in a Prostar.

Found via MC Teamtalk. It’s not as soft / plushy as decandence but lower cost and seems good.

As mentioned, stuff is heavy and likely will stay put.

I like the idea of “vinyl mesh mat” which is similar to decadence. Ordered a white one yesterday and will report back once it’s in service.

That American Mats stuff is what I have on the floor of my boat. Works great.

You could use Aquatraction. Similar to sea deck.

@6balls as part of our dock renovation project on the public lake site, I built a platform to go near water level. Works great for beginner kids to start from also.

 

@RAWSki I do like the woven mat material, and it is heavy so stays in place.
