I started to include -15 into my sets last year.  I can run -32 on a good day.  I was very surprised when I missed my first attempt at -15.   It was a good reminder of how important timing and rhythm is.  It is different than the shorter lengths for sure but it still requires the same fundamentals.  If nothing else it gives you a pass to work your way into your set, get the blood flowing, and get your head in the game.  for me I think it has helped to instill better habits, which have lead to more consistency, and more complete passes.  Yes going around all six is still fun even if the rope is long.  I will continue to incorporate -15 until my fourth pass is no longer my hardest pass.

A great podcast indeed. I like many others hated 15 off because as noted it IS a PITA with all that rope, but agree that if you can jump to 22 and run it all day then move. If you can't then stick it out .

Would love to see them do one on another nugget that stood out for me from another FPM podcast (Keeping it simple)  - which was the MB comment that one of the main reasons folks struggle at 28 and under is not getting angle and speed. As these are not optional but essentials, that should be a topic in itself of WHY that happens and HOW to  correct (steps).  Without it you're fighting a losing battle at each ball .

Well done MB and Rob.

Interesting topic around making passes.

I am a firm believer in breaking my rides into “volume” rides or “Intensity” rides.

Volume rides are when I ski up to the hardest pass that I can run consistently. I will run back to backs for the whole set working on technique and being smooth. Unless I am skiing at my absolute personal best, more than 1/2 of my rides are volume rides. Ideally I will run every pass of a volume ride. I am practicing making passes.

Intensity rides are where I run up the line and bang at my hardest pass. I only do these rides when I am skiing relatively well. So maybe 1 in 5 rides at the start of the season and then less than half the time at the end of the season.

@Dano I'm a firm believer that burning up the line too often is terrible for your skiing. I want to practice making passes that challenge me. I do not want to practice failing at my limit. Clearly we all need to see our hardest pass for some percentage or our rides. It is a balance.
