Everyone who gets on the platform out of the lake has to stand there for 20 seconds and take of the jacket before they climb inside the boat. Yes it's a boat and gets wet inside, but why make it 10 times worse than it needs to be?

 

I make my passengers do it given it's my boat and since I'm the one who has to deal with any problems like drying out the carpet then it's my way or no ski.

 

All this with a smile on my face of course!

Remove and replace, attempting to polish out will yield only moderate success. Assuming you can get replacements from somewhere, hit those existing with the heat gun and remove, polish the gelcoat around the area to get it back to new then put the new ones on.

I am in the signage game and that high gloss domed laminate is almost impossible to fix, whereas new ones look amazing. I’ve done it on my 196 and the result makes a real difference to the boat.

@jimski you might find the ‘group’ always want to go out with you because they don’t have to provide anything. If you were ok with that then great, but barely paying for gas is just plain bad manners in my book. Regular skiers should also have all their own gear to lessen your burden, it seems maybe they aren’t aware of common etiquette here?

Providing the boat all the time is tough work with maintenance costs and upkeep also, you’d at least want to be appreciated and have plenty of offers to wipe down after use?

My season here in Aus ended prematurely after a tibial plateau fracture. Got a plate and eight screws in there now. Just got off the crutches after 3 months. On my eighth and final pass went down at 5 ball 14m (28 off), don’t really know what happened in the fall but boot did release and knew I was stuffed when there was a lump out the side of my knee - part of the tibia.

I’m still pissed off that I was even going for it, I was tired and conditions weren’t great, should have had 6 and went home. I think this will affect next season as well missing half of this one. ?

Hmm not sure of value, but a bubble butt with an Excal and ZO is a damn good slalom boat. @Bruce_Butterfield would agree I'm sure. The only sticking point is the actual age of the boat, despite how good it may be.

Hmm I did suspect a big tick for the 6lt. @scoke thanks there’s some great insight you provided. I didn’t consider the 5.3 as there’s not many around for sale but may be worth looking at if I can find one.

Back in January I broke my tibia while training for my first tournament in 15 years on the very same week, so definitely aiming to do more tournaments next season. Sounds like the 5.7 probably should be avoided.

I'm wondering if purchasing a second hand 200 and based on slalom skiing only 34 & 36, would most consider the 343 to be suitable? I understand that the 6lt is preferable but is the 343 more than adequate for the job? The only 200's I've skied behind are 6l, but the 343 in my 08 196 is magic no problems whatsoever.

 

I guess I'm asking if a great 200 came along with the 5.7 would you buy it or hold out for the 6lt in the hopes of MAYBE getting a similar good deal?

Granted it would be difficult for you, not sure where his cave is or whether he's got internet in there but he'd have some stuff to say on the sport I reckon if you could coax it out of him.

@Gar yes I actually have put JB weld in there - twice. I put the first bit in very thoroughly I thought but it still leaked a little. Then I used an engraver to sand/grind it back and put some more JB in and it still leaks just the tiniest bit. It's a very fine spray. That recess in there is very difficult to get to.

 

I have one cat manifold currently leaking in the recess where the oxygen sensor goes. The other is a slightly different manifold which I believe was replaced at some point. Guessing that it's a re-designed one @RichardDoane speaks of as the way it's made doesn't allow for any leaking. Appears to be moulded in there rather than having a plate affixed in the back somehow. Pretty pissed off actually given the cost of a new one.

@horton I think you're right. Last Monday I blew my knee out skiing and am stuffed for at least 6 months. Broken tibia. Plenty of folks have brought up that fact that I'm 43 and "maybe it's time to give it away". I think these people miss the point. I reckon it's a great lifestyle to get out in the boat and teach my kids and still keep improving at my age and generally hang out on the river or lake meeting new people with the same keen interest. It's such a great sport I can't imagine not doing it. It seems only those who do it seem to "get it". We need to talk it up more.

@epnault I thought about that too, would need a velcro strap put on though, but I think it would work well.

I don’t know how anyone can use the thin liners. They are rubbish compared to the Intuition Splash I use on the front, I’ve found the short R style liner to be ok on the back too.

It’s pretty warm in Oz here at the moment if you’ve seen the news, there still a few parts that haven’t burnt to the ground!
