  1. @Fast351 Hips open/closed to the boat. Bingo! This is exactly how we call it in Russia: open turn & closed turn
  2. @TallSkinnyGuy Certainly it is no logic in heelside/toeside applied to skiing, though onside/offside has no logic either. It is just a matter of agreement how we call turn in order to understand each other. Isn't it? I came from wakeboarding, therefore heel/toe makes a sense for me - the physics and body position have some similarity both for ski and wake. Heelside/offside ring a bell. It helps me. I do not like"bad side" - because it kills my hope. And..... my "good side" is not good :D
  3. With all understanding that foot position is always the same, this looks for me as a heelside And this looks as toeside :)
  4. Looks like I'm going to have a good weekend :) Thanks to @perfski
  5. When I hear "Heelside" my brain reacts much faster than when I hear "Onside". Heelside for me is a mental image, whereas onside is just a verbal term. Cannot do anything with it....
  6. @Horton It is same like with releasable telemark bindings - in dramatic fall they release, though there are no standard like in alpine bindings. There are two options - either you rely on your experienced friend/coach or you use the equipment with full knowledge how it works. Not a drama but brain should be switched ON.
  7. Just soak it gently for few minutes. Then wash with water. If they are seriously contaminated it will be visible - some foam will appear on that spots. I use plastic bottles with thin nozzle, just pour liquid onto stuff - very convenient and economical. I ski early in the morning and sometimes wet stuff stays in the warm car till the evening - with a very predictable result :/ Also light washing boots and gloves with liquid soap in the lake after skiing helps a lot. @ALPJr I also cannot ski if stuff is smelling
  8. Is there any international standard or at least industrial standard for silvretta release unit? If not, who can guarantee that two similar bindings provide same release force? Or it is just good will of the manufacturer who, by the way has a very strict "terms of use" with disclaimer of "no responsibility"?
  9. @gsm_peter Thanks for info. I can not find this DVD. All links I found are too old and already not active. Trick ski could be fun, I will try it once it will be within reach. Probably air is too much for 200 of me, but on wakeboard which I stopped for skiing I did have fun with slides, swithes and others flat element @lpskier Interesting! I am Harald Harb follower :) Indeed, there are a lot of things correcponding to alpine ski: Counter acting, edge change before fall line, fore aft balance, shoulders level etc.. In fact BOS is a greate sourse of information. Lot of advisces and tips. It is more than enough for novice. I try to practice all of them - stack, COM position, body position, pull, etc.. In very intensive mode: min. 3 days per week by 60-70+ turns a day. Some skiers say that I am not completely useless)) But up to the moment all these elements live separate lives in my head. My concern is to connect all that into flow motion skiing, that is why I am searching for systematical step by step guidance.
  10. @jipster43 There is one hint how to get rid of smell in watersport equip.: Theat it with hydrogen peroxide solution (available from pharmacy). It will kill smelly bacteria and not affect material. Works well with boots and gloves.
  11. Hey colleagues! I started slalom skiing when I was already not a kid, actually that year I turned 55 (now 57) Have a decent amateur sport experience - alpine ski, 35 years of tennis, MTB etc.. Love my new passion! I have a simple question: In alpine skiing - there are a tons of books and/or video lessons. Bad or good. Widely accepted or hated. In tennis - there are billion of books and video, both old schools and modern technique. In MTB there are also few very decent books. In the wakeboarding where I spent some time - also decent number of video training courses. In the wind surfing - more. Is there a comprehensive water ski learning guide (preferably book with video)? I do not much care if it would be a kind of basic old school, I can do some adjustments later. It would be nice to stick to one guideline.
  12. gcam4 Disclaimer )) I am trying to find that thread, but cannot. To be on the safe side I have to say I do remember if it was about the heel wedge but not 100% sure which foot. Anyway simple physics tells if you ride with rear heel lifted from ski surface and somehow put heel in contact with ski by means of wedge, back leg will put more pressure on ski tail.
  13. I would agree with @Horton that wedge under rear heel may increase preasure to tail of the ski. Just physics...
  14. @scotchipman List of chemicals in banana :D http://resources3.news.com.au/images/2014/01/21/1226806/789895-2e77d7cc-823a-11e3-8c0a-8e0465bef8c3.jpg
  15. Same problem. It is not limited ankle mobility. It is because our calf is too rigid and not stretched. Try to stretch your rear foot calf before skiing. It may help a little.
  16. You may try non-stretch lace kit from snowboard boots, it looks pretty similar.
  17. When its going to be available? I just ordered Superlite CX and want to keep mono-brand style B)
  18. @savaiusini Will 2017 vMAX boot have removable liner as shown?
  19. Just changed big one (on the right at your photo). In order to do it comfortably you shell remove central part of the lock, insert laces in, direct them to opposite sides then put central part between laces till it "clicks" back. Removing center needs some force to be applied, but the lock should not break because is designed for this. I presume smaller lock should be disassembled also.
  20. @Msuwaterskier Should not worry about aggressive chemicals in the water. If it so vest would be damaged in others areas. I have same "billiards ball" hairstyle :D In the beginning of sunny season I apply decent amount of sunscreen to head and back neck and some of it may go down to lycra top and vests neck area. Neoprene is rubber based material and could be sensitive to some oils. Floating is an interesting turn of the thread. I am not very experienced skier and vest changes my water start a lot http://www.gssport.ru/sites/default/files/styles/beesho_product_large_thumb/public/img/beeshop/products/s001sail_laranja.jpg?itok=DJ8hcjYH With Mormaii sailing west which is two thick pieces of neoprene I start in a second like a rocket, whereas Slasher and Checkmate need more concentration. Checkmate for 200 me has too little flotation.
  21. Flex and torsional stability is more difficult to predict and obtain, whereas shape is a factor which very easy to change. So logically flex is more important.
  22. Next day after skiing day the best workout for me is sitting in a chair with a good book and my cats on lap.
