  1. One of the things I see most when teaching people how to get up on one is they have a hard time keeping the ski centered when getting pulled up. I have wide body O’Brien combos that I’ve tried to have people use and every person I’ve tried to have get up on one has even more trouble keeping the ski straight. Usually they end up pointing it to one direction or another and get pulled sideways. I think it might have something to do with the ski wanting to come out of the water faster than normal because of the increased buoyancy of the ski, at least it feels like that when I’ve tried it. Even if the person has both feet in when getting up they still have trouble keeping the ski headed straight when the pull starts. My family has taught a lot of people to ski and we always use normal sized skis. A friend got up on one over the summer and she did it fine after a few tries and helpful pointers.
  2. Could you imagine skiing behind something like that happening? It didn’t look like he was doing much but it would be crazy to be going through the motions, keep outside hand tension - ski around to the handle - look across to the next... where the hell did the boat go!?!?
  3. I’m going to try it out tonight for the first time. We’ll see how it goes. One thing I’m not sure about is how the app judges entry gates... does it just input as a gate when you cross center for the first time?
  4. I’ve never skied a tournament so all my PBs are behind my boat on a portable course. But if for some reason I couldn’t make another, (which I hope is a long way out) I would still be free skiing or course skiing on a longer rope until I couldn’t do that anymore. I was at Eden Lake earlier this year and after my runs a 78 yr old guy came up and ran 2 at -22, not sure what speed but he was still loving it and I hope I’m doing that when I’m that age. Like other have said, it’s so much of a lifestyle and I love waking up and skiing before breakfast and then after dinner. Hanging with other skiers and teaching people how to ski is a blast! One things for sure, I’ll be skiing with a smile on my face til I’m gone then I’ll be creamated with my ski!!!
  5. Nice! I haven’t read the power triangle article. That really helped me visualize a problem I’ve been having lately. I’m not getting my hips in the proper position after my turn, was getting pulled to far down course and was way late into buoys lately. My ski partners and I were trying to think up why but I’m pretty sure after reading that, it’s because I was setting too much angle and not being completely connected with the handle for the wake crossing. I have yet to watch video of my last sets but I will be watching for that now. Thanks, will have to focus on the body mechanics of that next time out!
  6. Fin Radar Panda... kinda surprised one hasn’t been handed out to someone on this thread yet :D

  8. Just found this thread and it’s a lot like what happened to my brother @PacMan and I. We had been skiing all our lives and suddenly decided we wanted to try the course. One of the camps here puts a course up in the summer so we pulled the boat out and went early one morning in 2015 to give it a go. We were both pretty confident in our abilities and decided to just start at 15 off 34mph. Both of us took a couple tries before we had the timing down but then we started making probably 50% of our passes. After we went on the course one more time that year we decided to buy a portable course the next year. The entire 2016 summer was spent at 15 off and a few ragged passes into 4 ball 22 off. I think my bro made 2 or 3 at 28 off. Both of us spent the end of the summer analyzing the video we had taken and reading BoS to find tips or advice. The entire winter we read BoS almost daily to better understand the slalom theory. Then we bought fin whisperer and learned a lot from that. The beginning of last summer we decided to slow down to 32 mph to get a better feel for the timing and get a better stack and form through the course. It worked great with both of us and started running into 32 off fairly quickly and regularly. Unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to get on the course the last couple months of the summer but we were enthused and determined for this year. Now we are both getting into 32 off back at 34 mph and still learning and improving. It helps that both of us are really good at understanding theory and are able to apply it when one of us critiques the other. This is probably the first sport we’ve not fought about who is better haha. Having a ski partner that is always watching for ways for you to improve is awesome. This website has also been the best teaching tool for us and there are way to many to list but thanks to all the slalom gurus on this site! Can’t wait to ski the course tomorrow!
  9. Ok thanks, I was kinda thinking so but I’d never heard the “hide the shoulder” for offside turns before this thread.
  10. @AdamCord is the onside pull ok to be more open? Or is “hiding the shoulder” still something you are trying to achieve?
  11. I think because I've been skiing at -15 and -22 so much that I got into a habit of pulling longer and that was messing up -28 and -32 because I feel like the edge change has to happen earlier. I imagine the increase in boat speed from 32 to 34 also played into this as well. What I've started doing lately is thinking about starting my edge change coming into the first wake and it feels like it happens on time and I stay connected way better. Eventually I guess it will be more automatic from doing it so much, I'm anxious for Sunday to get some video on the course and see what I can improve!
  12. I’m thinking the caption should be “the best boat for deep water starts”
  13. Funny you asked, I’ve been wondering the same thing. I’ve read both theories on this site and I’m not sure. I was having a trouble early this summer getting slack and I realized I was edge changing too late so lately I’ve been making a conscious effort to edge change but still maintain my lean and tension on the rope. It’s been working good since I’ve started. I’d like to hear more about this.
  14. Crazy, I'm not sure I'd try that on anything! @Chef23 how fast do you go for trick? I've been interested in trick ever since Horton posted about the new women's record. How long of rope too?
  15. That is a sweet pic, here's a GoPro one I snapped a couple weeks ago, I have a few more but this is my fav. 32 off if I remember...
  16. I think the technology, R&D and the costs of all the equipment in new boats are the reason prices are so high. The boat companies are in business to make advancements in boats and make money doing it. People that make a lot of money will not care about paying 90-140k for a new boat. This will always keep the used market high. But as others have said, there are affordable boats that get the job done. I ski behind a 86 MC and am starting to run into 32 off. At this point in time I don’t really care that my boat is a year older than me or not a ZO boat (would be nice though). Or that I get pelted with boat spray on shortline and it’s hard to drive through the course. I’m never going to compete at a level that requires me to have the newest boat to ski behind for practice, and I’m starting to get into 32 off!!! I think more people should care less about the age and gadgets on their boat and more about what they can do behind it... have fun and ski! All that said, I do understand that for the aspiring tourney skier it is a hard ask to drop that much on equipment to train with but that’s where the sport is at right now. The best thing I would try is to find a club that has the boat you want to ski behind or go in halfway with someone like others have said.
  17. @Horton, hope you don’t mind a few options 1.T-1000 2.Silverballer 3.Pulsar 4.transformer sounding name...RoBOStar
  18. I think my biggest problem is sometimes I lose my mental focus, not sure how to describe it. But when it happens I have a breakdown, it’s usually during a turn and I’ll lean back into a little wheelie or lose handle connection too early and then I’m chasing the course after that.
  19. I'm liking these colors. @LoopSki's colors on the first page reminds me of Renault F1 colors when Alonso went double drivers champ, actually pretty slick looking.
  20. @BraceMaker that was my thought when someone was describing the video this morning. I haven’t seen the video, just had a few pics sent to me. Have a link that’s not Facebook? I’m not a fb member lol.
  21. Just had a nice snowstorm in Northern Wisconsin and saw this online. Unfortunately with 3ft of ice still and a fresh new foot of snow it might be a while until skiing. But I will be at Eden Lake in 3 days!!!!!!!
  22. @RAWSki @Shell That’s awesome, congradulations!! I’m thinking line the isle with boat guide bouys, get a boat pulling bride and groom ornament for the wedding cake top, “tying the knot” around your hands with a ski rope, pull six turn bouys behind the boat and put a “Just Married” sign above the swim platform for the ride away, for the bouquet and garter toss get everyone on the edge of the dock (something funny may happen), best pass on the course gets to dance with the maid of honor or best man (just for some friendly competition) haha, and for the ceremony you should probably get @Horton certified to do it since it’s a BoS introduction.
  23. @WBLskier do you have a website for this league? Sounds fun!
