  1. sorry Im not interested in comparison BETWEEN quest and H2, BUT Im interested in the ARC compared to quest and ARC compared to H2 :) [so I believe this is the right thread]
  2. Would be nice to hear comparison to Helix H2 and Quest - I like the Quest but I never got the H2 to work for me (cold water skier) - The H2 seemed very sensitive to body position. (too sensitive).
  3. I totally agree with all. BUT new ski's work a lot different than the old ! So you might have to change old habits. In my experience the new ski's are "faster" (turns with more speed) but some of the ski's does not turn if you are too much on your rear foot. So be patient with you new ski :)
  4. sounds like you just needs some support for your arch (LFF -> more support on right part = Arch -> more input when lean to right) A lot of standard sport soles kan help ... so start with a standard sole
  5. try try try - don't listen to all the "propaganda" (funny how new ski's (right now the 2016 vapor) ALWAYS gives you more space, easier turn etc...... BOTH ski's are world-record capable and with the "right input" I'm sure they deliver.... don't (necessarily) go with the masses be unique and chose because YOU ski great on precisely THAT ski
  6. Is it an old ski - maybe gone too soft ? Try another and see if it helps
  7. @david_ski, interesting experience you had, maybe it is not the distance between your feet - but the fact that you are overall longer back on your quest - I have a Quest as well, and when I worked on the fin/binding setup in the spring it seemed that "everybody" in here moved the bindings BACK - not front like you. My point is: is it the distance between your feet or is it the overall (mid) position on the ski that makes the difference ? I think that the closer your feet is - the faster the change of weight-distribution on the ski.... and maybe all new ski's today ski better with constant weight distribution or slower weight transition than "in the old days" when we added a lot of pressure on the front in preturn and quiqly moved back at the finish of the turn...
  8. Hi, I got these numbers from D3 after e-mailing them with the exact same question: I'm on a 67" and skiing 34 mph (so 65" will be different) !! 2.475 6.935 .755 (flat) wing @7 Binding 29 5/8 (WEB: 6.915 2.510 7.745 @7 Binding 30) The setup I got from D-3 (email) made the ski too lively and the turns to narrow for my taste - so I adjusted the fin down (deeper) on both screws (½ turn) which made the off side turn more smooth for me, I also ski with the wing @8 (I'm skiing in cold fast water) I'm not finished dialing the ski in - just got an injury and off the water 14 days. What I have heard/read is; slightly back with the bindings, slightly more wing and move the fin .1-.2 forward (on the 67") enjoy - and please post your experiences
  9. I have been on the H2 a couple of passes now, and I also think that it turns almost too fast and (much) I tried a deeper fin which helped - Im thinking - why not try the R30 rockerblock ? I wonder why @horton didn't ? - it seems obvious when I read this review.... in the video from D3 with Seth Stisher - He mentions that he uses the R30..... Does anyone have experience with the R30 compared to R45 on this ski ?
  10. thanks @schroed - I e-mailed to D3 and they emailed back to me - saying I should start at: 2.475 6.935 0.775 wing 8 binding 29 5/8 I will try these (very different) settings and keep your comments in mind :)
  11. Just got my H2 - hopefully I will get to try it today ..... BUT what are the factory settings? In the input paper D3 included - there is a RANGE which is quite big.... (not useful)... 6.920-6.950 + 2.475-2.510 + 0.750-0.760 On D3's web page they recommend :(67") 6.915+2.510+0.745+7degree+30" When I got the ski, the settings where very odd: 6.900+2.500+0.760 (notice that length is out of D3s recommended range) Does anyone know what the "latest" recommended settings are? and is there any experience with these settings/any other recommendations ? Thanks
  12. @mrJones: I have used double reflex the last couple of years but miss the feeling of the back foot closer to the front... I might try the R style; 1. do you think it supports the foot/ankle enough? (I never could ski with an open rear toe..) 2. 2. what is "a kicker" (you might try)?
  13. question - what are your data: high/wight and are you running 36 or 34 mph? Im interested in weather I should have a 65" or 67" (im 6 feet, 185 lb(84kg), 34 mph) :) (I have an old D3 67" and a quest 67" - (which I never got used to)).
  14. thanks @skijay, I will shoot some video and have a look myself, on where the water is breaking :)
  15. @skijay thanks for all your comments :) First I had problems getting enough "space" - I thought the ski was turning to soon = too much tip in the water second I had problems in the last 1/3 on the off side turn - and @Horton wrote "A DFT of .745 would result in a momentary hitch or sticky spot 2/3 of the way through the radius.... A DFT closer to .760 fixed it for everyone" I also experienced that the ski kind of vent up in the air (back weight) after the turn - which you commented in another thread as "letting up/stop the turn - probably because too much tip... recommending a reduced length of 0.015 and 0.005. But I guess I have gone too far now - and after moving the bindings back I need to go back to factory settings BTW should I start with the first recommendations (shiped with my ski = 6.94 2.515 0.745) or the newest recommendations (quest 45 homepage = 6.925 2.51 0.745 = little shorter fin).
  16. I also wonder - the flex of the ski must be important and also what boots/plates we use - can you please write your ski-flex here (I will find my factory note and write mine here for comparison) - Im on 2 reflexbindings - 2 seperate "plastic" plates (possible softer than alu-plates)
  17. @jim5 @jimbrake thanks for sharing, I tried this in the weekend (reflex - started out in the middle - now back one hole = 29.5) I'm 6'0", 180 lbs on a 67'- but i must admit I did NOT move the fin back to factory settings before moving my bindings back - and the course where terrible (one buy missing after a lot of rain) - so difficult to tell. I felt that my body position during my offside turn where better - but now late again (no space) - my finn is 6.9-2.5-0.77 I have a suspicion that the finn should be farther back again after moving the bindings - perhaps I should start over with factory settings (old 6.94-2.515-0.745/new 6.925-2.51-0.745)
  18. @skijay - strange but I never found the Quest to be either predictabel or forgiving - on the contrary - I newer trust the ski from the finish of my offside turn to 2nd wave - Helix is easy to correct :)
  19. Interesting that so little has happened to fin and spoiler development over the years - look at the boats and surfers - (with much less speed) they can change performance dramatically with fins and foils etc. The Finn must be just as important as the ski itself - and I'm surprised that nobody invented an asymmetrical finn before - it should be obvious - because everybody feel a big difference between the good side vs. bad side. Is it because everybody can copy a good fin ? (=no interest from manufactors)?
  20. @zippin_2‌ nice to hear :) I have given up my quest now - I just use too much time on it - I will try the Helix instead maybe wait for the 2015 :)
  21. @Mattp Thanks, I can see I need to drill the holes "open" to one long hole - next problem is that the screw that goes into the ski is exactely lined with the screws in the Blocks - hence no room for the screws ..... hmmm not easy ...
  22. Hi, exactely the problem I have with my quest - a lot of tip rise - tried to move the bindings back one hole (reflex bindings) yesterday (at first only front binding = still the same) (2.nd both bindings = a smaller improvement) - (how do you micro adjust)? And how do you measure reflex binding placement? (the boot is curved)? Great Forum :)
  23. :D red one LOL ... I don't know what rocker block I have - I believe its born with a R30 ?
  24. I too have problems with the Quest - I Ski very inconsistent on this ski - I usually ski very consistent (coming from an old D3 custom). I also feel that i need to "overski" the quest (pull harder longer etc.). I tried the Helix and voila - back to normal :) - I can "feel" the ski again and feel small fin adjustments. I believe that a ski is forgiving for some but not for others (if the skis "DNA" is not right). Maybe a ski like the Helix is "less forgiving" in theory but if it is easier to correct a lazy turn or short pull - and you feel that the ski react as you want it to react - then (I believe) a very "loose unforgivable" ski - FEELS more forgiving(=predictable). I just can't ski the Quest - I have tried (and vasted) the whole 2014 season. If the ski does not work good after 3 sessions - then don't by it.
